Had a minor accident in personal vehicle yesterday. How bad is this for getting hired?

Yesterday I was pulling into a business on a side road and got distracted from somebody yelling at me from the parking lot. Ended up sideswiping the rear bumper of an older lady’s car passing by. No police involved or report, nobody hurt, mutual exchange of information, I filed the claim 1 hour later with insurance. Took place in Virginia. MVR was sterling up to this point. This is actually my first accident. Since I started driving 10 years ago. I’m so bent out of shape over it especially when I consider how perfect you need to be in this day and age for these companies to bring you on. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

If there's no police report or tickets. The accident never happened.

Even if I reported it to insurance? Sorry I’ve just never dealt with this before.

    1) be prepared for a lawsuit, she will later claim injuries, as someone in nher family will tell her to do.

    2) since no police report, but YOU DID call your insurance company, there is now a file on this accident. but the insurance company won't be reporting this to the DMV

    3) if you are easily distracted, driving your car, how the heck are you going to be driving a big rig..??

    4) you HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION when you are in control of ANY motorized vehicle.

    5) she CAN DO an "after an accident police report" especially if she seeks a lawyer to sue you later for any injuries.

let this accident be a warning, to your future problems, once you get that CDL, and "get distracted" while driving, either on the road, entering or exiting a parking lot, highway, etc, etc.

don't matter...you stated you been driving for 10 years now, meaning you slipped up, which YES, does happen.

let that happen in a big rig, you're gonna kill someone and go to jail.

since you filed a claim with your insurance company as i said, they WILL NOT report that to the DMV, but any potential employer can (if they really want to)

run a insurance check on you...i forget what the actual name of it is called.

I hear you. I guess I’m just coming to terms with it. I appreciate you all hearing me out. It’s just not a good feeling. Thank God it wasn’t major. I reckon I’ll deal with the repercussions if they come and if it bars me from getting into this industry, so be it.

won't bar you, but if anything at all, you should use this as a learning experience, and NOT repeat it.

next time someone shouts out your name, keep your eyes on the road, and just tap your horn.

Most insurance companies allow one 'at fault' accident in the past 3 years for any new applicant.

Always get a copy of the PD report [if there is one] for your records, you may need it as proof for later applications but in OP's case there is no PD/DMV records.

I have processed a ton of applications over the past 45 years and I often would see something like OP's incident listed on an application but not on the MVR abstract it shows the applicant might be honest.

During my audit [12 yrs ago by a real DOT person] I noticed that any comment I want, as long as the ink was a contracting color was acceptable, along with having to strike a line through any excess sections left blank being required, they dislike blank lines!

In this case I would mark 'NOT ON MVR' in red or purple and move on as the insurance had already approved the MVR.

After 3 years OP can stop putting this one on the applications as it will never show up on your MVR; other applicants with a reported 'opps' should list older incidents as they can appear on some states MVR abstracts for 5 - 7 years as some anal safety people won't dismiss looking at one that's 4 or 5 years old even though it is outside of the 'standard'.

I remember coming from HM and tankers to containers and having to personaly adjust to different standards.

You don't have to have a perfect driving record to start working.
    3 oopsies are important:
    Failed drug tests.
Lying trough your teeth in your applications and getting caught.
Vehicular homicide convictions on your criminal record.
If this is the case, maybe driving a commercial vehicle is not for you.
    Good luck.
