I really don't see the need for this thread.
You did the right thing.
You moved over because you had room to move over and no one crashed.
No big deal.
Now. if you had not moved over because there was traffic in your way, when there might have been a yellow sign saying 'Blind Curve - 35MPH'... That might be a different story.
had a near miss and i wanted your guys input

I believe we are taught to swerve to the right to avoid an accidents?

If avoiding an accident is the right thing then how come i received a 3rd lane violation for doing just that? Trooper literally told me i should have let the moron hit me. Btw the trooper had a front row seat...he chose to pull me vs. the reckless 4wheeler who tried causing a wreck.
Bottom line, your buddy is right. Legally you must hold you lane! Don’t leave it for anything. What happens happens.LtlAnonymous and okiedokie Thank this. -

I'll play devils advocate
You said blind corner. Car comes around corner and you head on collision in their lane. You're at 100% full fault.
The maneuver is a little too sharp. Truck rolls. You're at 100% full fault.
The place I worked said hold your lane no matter what. This was said every safety meeting.Their insurance is their primary concern. Not you. This is likely why your friend told you what he did.
Me, I think you did great.TokyoJoe, magoo68, blairandgretchen and 2 others Thank this. -
I do not know when the hold your lane no matter what way of having an accident came about. The old old school way was to do everything possible including killing yourself getting your rig off the road and away from the other guy. Anyone remember and/or heard the songs?
The hold your lane deal used to work when trucks were solid and could take a hit without blowing apart into a million pieces like a crashed plane or exploding into a ball of fire. The engine blocks and cabs don’t even stay in or on the frames anymore and the emission bs for the exhaust and all the electrical wiring required now is a major short and fire hazard in a crash.
Trucks used to get rebuilt after a rollover or a jackknife all the time. Nowadays they are usually totaled out because they are unidentifiable scrap that require multiple wreckers and dumptrucks to haul off the pieces even after hitting a civic.LtlAnonymous, singlescrewshaker, Speed_Drums and 1 other person Thank this.
