I’ve never dropped a trailer, “knock on wood” but I’m wondering for those that have is it really that big of a deal? Other than the fact that you’re going to spend about a half hour in low gear cranking it back up? Are there other repercussions other than cranking for a half an hour and some embarrassment?

Drop a loaded trailer in the mud an it might just sink clear to the frame. Dropping it on solid ground can buckle the landing gear, especially on a tank. That sudden bounce can cause the liquid in the tank to start surging, which increases the likelyhood of the landing gear buckling.okiedokie, tommymonza and Lennythedriver Thank this.

Every time I stop, I inspect as I exit, inspect as I re-approach, and tug test before I leave. I leave as little to chance as I can.Wasted Thyme Thanks this.

The Simplex setup doesn't work the same as the Holland with the bolt sticking out the front.
The ones we have now are easier to uncouple and appear simpler than the ones before, too.
Jost is different, too. -
I half dropped a tank in Nestle one night tired
Always had to drop and exit the bay which is unusual hauling milk
My tired ### pulled the pin and disconnected the lines with only sleep on my mind
Pulled ahead Slowly as I always do and saw the trailer drop on the frame and caught it
Spent an hour gathering scrap wood around and jacking it back up to get the landing gear down
Nestle won’t pump if it’s all GollyWaggled -
It could have happened again. Thought it was strange.
I hooked up,tugged it.looked at pull release and was in ,raised landing gear and and hooked up lines. Looked at fifth wheel again and saw release now out .WTF. went back , nothing happens. Had to pull forward ever so slightly and then reverse again. Tugged and was fine.
I just don't understand wtf is going on -
Equipment can & does fail. I lost a second trailer at 30mph in town. I never want to see that in a mirror again. They drug me onto the carpet(union). Final outcome was defective equipment. High pin is probably the most common coupling problem.
BUMBACLADWAR and tommymonza Thank this. -
Yep had a newer kenworth where I worked that gave me fifth wheel grief for a week.
Jaws closed. Handle in. Shop guy who new his Krap worked on it twice previously
Do a hard tug test and it would disconnect. I had 2 experienced guys at the farm helping me over and over. And it still did it.
Back to kenworth it went per the company owner after hearing about the problemLast edited: Jun 24, 2020
