The Shortest Route is not, I repeat " NOT" the fastest route. Single lane highways are worst. Get a big map and plan it using the truck routes and avoid using unpaved dirt, sand or gravel unless you are sure it has a turn around.

So you took state roads all day.

That's good. You do what you have to do mr Driver.

    No complaining please.

If you want epic routes, try US 50 from say... St Louis roughly east into the coast all the way. Or US 20 all the way to Chicago roughly without using I80 for saving toll money. Or the old 40 and so on.

Indiana and Colorado you use thousands of miles of two lane. Denver to Dallas is the old 287 and some 50.

State routes are a oppertunity to rustle up new places to eat, visit and so on.

My favorite is the PTL driver that took the short route through a state park then got stuck on a pedestrian bridge.

Its like how could PTL not see something is very wrong. when he entered that area.Goes to show drivers don't pay attention to their surroundings.PTL is a perfect example of a certified steering wheel holder.

I watched the PTL tape on youtube and the first thing I noticed was that the driver is probably now unemployed. I have done some boneheaded things in my career. I have knocked down a pole without having any idea that I did it. I followed my GPS into a neighborhood that was so narrow that there was no way for me to drive forward and get out of it. I called a wrecker. The man driving the wrecker told me he could drive it out of there. He got it buried in mud. When we got it out of there he put liquid dish soap on the road so he could slide the trailer around the corner.

Of course now watching folks make the same mistakes I have made is a good time. I am just glad no one had a video camera back in the day.

That's terrible advice, from Indy to Hawesville, 65 to 265 to 64 and down hwy 37 is the quickest, easiest route.
No stoplights, no small towns, no farm equipment or mopeds.

@x1Heavy , next time you're in Indiana on I-65, take Hwy 46 west out of Columbus to Hwy 135 south to Seymour, it's all an approved truck route. I took it in my pickup, never again, too tight a road

My company wants me to follow their route as well. Except its has poor route direction, specially around chicago, where I go a lot. It routes through residential streets IN CHICAGO! I am surprised you just noticed it after a year. I usually open up google maps, it's a brilliant app when you are in major city.
