I was born and raised in Indiana (naptown for those in the know) but moved to CA back in the 90's and had no idea what to look for with training. See back then you didn't have the internet, just uncles and friends telling you things. the first trucking company was a hole in the wall place that charge something like $500 which I thought was amazing but found out it was the Phoenix University of truck schooling. ha I forgot the name but its not in service anymore anyways since a lot of other students like me complained and they closed shop. Just pick somewhere that fits YOU. this topic is for the BEST schools but this is just our opinions so there really is no EXACT science except do your research... check online reviews, check yelp reviews, check BBB, talk to the admissions people, go visit the place, don't just go off price like I did.
as far as me tossing my hat in the ring, I went to Area Truck Driving School in the SF Bay Area (in santa clara, CA). I cannot speak for other places but talking with my uncles they told me their schools sucked compared to what I got. the good is they are like family there. I can't remember the girls name (lady, woman, or whatever the PC thing is nowadays) but she was very nice and helped me with getting a foot in the door at many places I worked for over my 9 years. i think out of my class everyone passed and got jobs except some guy who kept showing up late and getting on everyones nerves including mines but there's always a jerk in every place. those guys/ gals are legit but bad thing is they only are in CA so unless you live in CA or plan on staying there for the class your back to square one. I'm happy now exploring other things, people, and places (not all in that order) but that would be my choice if your in that area. tell them big mike sent you.![]()
Had to travel for it but Area Truck Driving School is good for California training.
