According to the couple driver that I have spoken with, they seem to be decent. Being in Souptown, you may want to stay away from Sue Vinjy.
She has a far less than stellar reputation, again that is according to the drivers that I have talked to.
Dave Evans, and Jeff Foster both seem to have decent reputations as well. Though, I think that Evans and Foster both require experience.
Halvor Lines requires either experience, or accredited training and time in their apprentice program. When I spoke with Halvor recruiting a while back they were accepting training through Lake Superior C\C across the bridge in Duluth, as well as a couple other places.

Thank you very much ! I have heard good things about them and am a pre-hire candidate. Looking into other companies but this close to home and sounds really good so far. Thanks again.

Oh, Kivi Brothers in Cloquet may also be worth looking into.

Great company. Great Equipment. I started my career there and wish I never left. Good trainers. Decient pay for new drivers. And its in your home town. Go for it.

Like I said, I wish I never left. I'd love to relocate up there. Ah...

    Good luck.

I'd be happy to answer any of your questions.

Thank you Big Moe, Its looking like its between Millis and Halvor for me so far. Should make my decision by mid week. I have never been in one of these chat room forum type things before but this has been a very good experience and informative for me while changing careers after 35+ years has been nerve racking enough, you all have been AWESOME and I thank you very much !!

I live up in the Superior area. Halvor is better than Millis. I never worked for them but have a couple of buddies that have been there for a long time. Jeff Foster is decent, nicer trucks but lower pay. They used to be a lot better when guys could run how they wanted too. Dave Evans is probably the best outfit in the area but requires some experience. Evans has the lowest turnover rate. Stay away from Sue Vinje. I have yet to hear anything positive about it. The Vinje family runs Halvor too but Sue is the black sheep.

If I was you I would into the railroad. It is tough to get in but there are a lot of retirements coming up in the next five years. Union Pacific and the CP both have small yards in Superior. BNSF has a big yard in Superior and a small one in Duluth. Canadian National has a big yard in Proctor. You will make more money, have better home time, and a lot better benefits on the railroad than any of these trucking companies.

Just saw that worked somewhere else for 35 years. Driving truck is probably your best bet. The railroad would be too much hassle if just looking to work for a few years.

Yeah, I do like Halvor too and have heard about Vinje thanks for the warning ! I have worked for 35+ yrs but am only 52 so I have some good years left, I hope lol. Worked steel when I was a teenager as I was too smart for school and all (dumb) but in those days if you showed up at the yard, looked 16 yrs and could hold your mud, you were hired ! Good money, hardest work I did though. Thanks to all again !

Last entry from about a year ago. Any current Halvor drivers want to weigh in?
