HAM Radio in the truck? Is it possible?

it is, SGC tuner in front of it.

Pretty good antenna but for the price it better be.

 

Guy I know has one. He runs a body tank truck. Last I asked him he had well over a million miles running it.

 

Think about each station as a player in a baseball game. Each player can only catch a ball that is within his arm's reach, therefore players throw the ball over long distances rather than run to each other and hand it off.

Two stations located 20 miles apart could communicate via a groundwave if each had enough ERP to reach the other's antenna.


I still keep my CB tuned to channel 19 but I go weeks at a time without keying the mic. I would happily get my ticket and buy some ham or GMRS gear if I knew they were useful for ad hoc communication on the highway and in parking lots.

 

Are any of them widely regarded as a call channel, the way 19 is on the CB band?

I don't know. I JUST started my research. The Jeep crowd is big into them. I think there is a common hailing channel.

 

You call them what you want I'll call them what we call them in my house, everyone is happy!

 

It isn't what I want to call them, they are QSL cards, a receipt of a contact - "QSL?", "QSL" means "Can you confirm our contact", "Yes I can".
