I dont mean to offend anyone by this post but how can there be handicapped truck drivers? When I got my CDL they asked me 50 million health questions that if I had any of the things on the list it would precent me from being able to get my CDL. They say you cant have back problems leg problems arm problems muscle spasms heart problems sleep problems and many more things will prevent you from being able to drive a truck so I am stumped as to why there are handicapped truck parking spots and handicapped truckers to park in them. Again not trying to offend anyone just dont understand.

You can have a handicap that doesn't fall into any of the med. Criteria.
Also. When I have my wife with me. She has a busted ankle. So I throw the placard and parkin handicap for her.

I park there when the blind and deaf lot lizards are working... It's easier for them to find my truck that way.
But seriously, as peterbuilt2005 mentioned... My wife has fairly bad arthritis in her feet... If she came with me I would use her placard for sure. Even if she starts to drive with me, once up in the truck working two peddles would actually be a better working environment that what she current has... Doctor said trucking would actually be a good job for her to keep her feet from more damage.
Also, I saw a Driver in a Truck Stop yesterday with a prosthetic leg ... I am sure he can get up and down the steps of the cab and if it's an auto then shifting would not be an issue for him, but he is still handicapped too.peterbilt_2005 Thanks this. -

I've always wondered that myself. All the "handicaps" that I know of that qualify someone to get a placard (at least as the driver, I can understand the passenger thing others have mentioned) would disqualify them from being a CDL holder.
I think I remember seeing one person using one of the spots in London, ON in my four months OTR. At least someone who had a placard on display at least. In Saskatoon, SK, anything went. -
Many places put these in at the major T/Ss to hedge any possible litigation based on the ruling in court about the ADA, pretty stupid when you think about it - having companies react so they don't get sued.
RustyChops41 and Jubal3 Thank this. -

Saw a guy at a loves in MO use one. He was atleast 450 was dragging an oxygen tank and had one of those canes with the 4 heads on the bottom. Even watching him I have no idea how he managed to climb down out of the truck.
Lucy in the Sky Thanks this.
