A word of advise to anyone who reads this.... If ever asked to allow a search of your vehicle you are under no obligation to say yes but if you do say yes make sure that you are in site if the search at all times and know that you can revoke your permission at any time unless they have found probable cause then they no longer need your permission.

Well, as i said, i figure it is just easier to turn it off and place it somewhere out of sight. I don't do this for the reason that I was doing something wrong, it's mainly because my fiance has a habit of calling me at the most inoppertune times. Like during an DOT inspection, when I'm at the guard shack checking in at the plant or as usual, right when I'm getting on the ramp to pull into the scales. I swear she knows sometimes LOL

And always be polite, it goes a long way......as well as some joking around if you can w/o embarassing yourself

Politeness is the golden rule. The good officer's are only doing their job and realize that you have a job too.
Motownfire Thanks this. -
They need a search warrant to get your phone records?? I don't see no difference. Of course he'll confiscate it while he waits for the warrant.
I like numbers idea. Use the password protect. Make them crack it if they want to see it that bad.
One day the line will be crossed where trucking isn't fun anymore. Many truckers truck because no one is looking over their shoulder. It's getting where everyone is looking over your shoulder.
Once the cell phone laws are settled, what's next?? -
Keep the phone in sight if you do hand it over. Some LEOs have devices that can download all your texts, call info and address book just by plugging it in.

That was my point exactly.

Here in Indiana, the State Supreme Court ruled recently that you do NOT have the right to refuse any order of law enforcement, regardless of how illegal it is. Your only recourse is to obey every order and then file a lawsuit against the department if the order was improper or illegal.
SHC and CondoCruiser Thank this. -
I get stopped constantly as I run south texas and they are always looking for smugglers of all kinds. After the 1st year on my dedicated run, the officers now wave as I go by and I always wave back. And this came in handy one night when I had a tire go flat on me on US59 and I was sitting on the shoulder. I had a pick-up truck come up behind me and sat there for a minute or two, then I saw an officer come up behind them with his lights on and they pulled away, he then followed them and pulled them over a few feet away. I watched as he searched their truck, cuffed them and placed them into another car. The officer then came back around to me and told me they had found guns and some stolen items in the truck along with a fuel transfer system. The officer had seen me waiting for the tire repair and sat behind the old substation waiting for someone to come along and sure enough they did. guess they must have been doing this a bit in the area because the tire guy found 4 brand new nails in my tire, not rusted at all???
Anyways, thanks for being there for us!!!
