show me, prove it to me....
i want to know that as well
i get paid a VERY GOOD salary, with company paid benefits AND vacations, and weekends off.

many o/o's cannot afford to have thier own benefits for one, then all the other financial responsibilities as well. i have also seen RIGHT HERE on this website, MANY o/o's getting duped or cheated out of pay, or have been complaining about way too many things like when the truck breaks down and they cannot make thier money.. when any of ours break down, we call Penske, they take us another tractor, and away we go.....we DO NOT sit very long...and you..???

i make out QUITE WELL yearly, and NO headaches, and the responsibilities I DO HAVE with my freight, i handle them incredibly well, thank you very much, come again soon please.

any o/o WILL TELL ANYONE, thier GROSS income, but almost WILL NEVER tell anyone thier EXACT NET PAY.........

for starters, i AM EARNING $60 k + each year, with REGULAR pay raises, for a mere 40-45 hour work week....and you...???? and i park my truck at the warehouse, and Penske takes it for service and returns it or gives me a loaner......and you...????

    you see.....i got's me no headaches.........and you..>????

To each their own, I've never had the desire, drive, or the determination to put in 6/7 days a week to make it profitable.

For example, most would consider $2/mile a average rate, on 120,000 miles a year. Gross $240k after expenses, say you net 40% leaving you $140,000. Then there is the other hidden costs, working on your truck on your "Off" days and all the other issues that don't get glorified when owning your own truck.

I'm happy with making slightly less, never scheduled to work more than 224 days a year, on top of that getting another 30+ days paid off, 100% up to six% match 401k health insurance, And no headache of truck ownership and costs.

I shouldn't take the bait but here goes I.ll break it down
    Gross pay 280k this year
Should be about 60k for fuel
Maint I .budgeting 55k because I have a platinum inframe scheduled
Ins is 4k because I am leased on
Scales and tolls usually noore than 6 k
Not much left after that plus home almost every weekend just finished 10 days off because I felt like it and take at least 3 major vacations with my kids every year ...
Only downside my med is runs 9600 a year but 280-136 still works out pretty good I think .
I will agree most o/o don't hit those numbers but they are not unreasonable or unatainable, I could also say most company drivers don't make 40k and have crappy insurance but that is just as stupid as your arguement.

Truth be told I would never be a company guy again because what happens when your boss shuts down, loses a contract, or screws up his business. If you have managed your money well and are happy good for you

That's because NET pay varies as opposed to a fixed gross. Comparing company guys to indys isn't even in the same ballpark unless the indy is pathetic at running his business. Then, of course, he'd be generating revenue closer to what a good company job pays. However, a very large percentage of business savvy independent OOs easily triple a company guy salary. One thing I also notice here is company guys also mention their GROSS numbers. After they get raped in taxes it's at least 33 percent lighter. Their net income quite low considering they have no assets to show after it's all said and done. I'm not looking down on a company driver at all BTW. After all, running a business right takes much more dedication than most people can handle sanely.

For crying out loud, the egos in this thread are unbelievable. Making money and running your own business is like doing math. Some people are great at it while others don't have a clue. Those of you who claim that there is no way an O/O can make more than X amount of dollars because you know a few O/O's that aren't doing so great aren't seeing the big picture and have no way of understanding the big picture. The cost of living (especially housing) where you live, your proximity to good paying loads, your ability to properly establish a budget, and your ability to seek out and obtain high paying customers are just a few of the things that determine your level of success in trucking or any business. Comparing how much somebody makes is like comparing your junk size. What works great for one person doesn't work so great for somebody else.

Are you more than one person? We're all going on anecdotal evidence and it conflicts. I'm not going O/O right now because I don't have the starting capital and the numbers my company told me, and that I heard from others just wouldn't be worth the hastle for a small raise. I'm holding off while I aclimate to the business, and get all my information straight in my head.

I didn't need a bunch of excuses. So the answer to my question was, no. You have zero real world first hand experience to what an OO generates in the revenue department. I'm not going on anecdotal evidence. I'm going by MY experience as an OO.

If you’re happy with your job that’s fine. There is alot of us O/O’s who love what we do and we are good at it. It’s a business, things can be really good or really bad , you gotta be ready for it. Don’t put people down if you have no clue how to run a trucking business.
