For gods sake get out of that porch and do something worthwhile Buddyd157. Don't just rot in the rocking chair. People die early that way.

    Congratulations.

actually, i had planned for tuesday or wednesday, to go to the DMV and turn in my CDL...

i just did that this morning, at 8:30 when they opened up...!!!

it took all of about 35-45 minutes, as the CDL section is distanced from the ordinary fools..

i guess now, this makes ME an ordinary fool now too.....???...lol

and thanks for the thread...sure is appreciated..>!!!!!!

as far as accomplishing everything i wanted to as a driver, i did want to at one time own my own rig, but that was back in the day of the first lease to own fleece deals..remember Arctic Express, Greenfield Transport, Schanno...(the old) Prime..??

i went thru so much reading (this was before internet, and everything went by mail), and i can tell you now, that the scams were alive back then, ever more so now as well...

when i saw the drivers settlement sheets from the various companies, i said to my self,
screw this, i make more NOW as a company driver, and NO headaches......

i never pursued any more ideas of being an o/o, not even bank financing, as the lesson i learned was, no matter lease to own, or downright buying with a loan, too much time, money and in the end,....trouble...to be an o/o.......

actually, I DO HAVE a rocking chair (belonged to my grand dad, and i have a brand new la-z-boy recliner, which also rocks..!!

but you know what..?? i have so many things to do around the house, that i could not get to during the work week..like painting, wallpaperings, fixing broken glass, etc,etc...all the crap a home owner has to take care of, so i will find things to keep me occupied....

    thank you..!!!!

    Congrats on your retirement.
Does your state require you to give up your CDL?
Why you got to hate on Schanno?
They were a good company back in the day. Had a few buddies that were leased to them and they all did well.
I even trip leased to them from time to time.

    1) no, my state does not require any CDL surrendering. i turned mine in for many reasons....

    1) the overall cost at each renewal, like hazmat testing, TSA fingerprinting and background checking, and having to get a DOT physical every 2 years...

now, i can simply go to my local AAA office when renewal time is due, and pay a mere $60 down from what, about $200 per CDL/DOT physical renewal times..????

    2) i hate on Schanno and frankly the old Don Freymiller due to being told that i did not qualify for a NEW truck, but a very old, (500,000 + miles truck) for a lease deal..I HAD MONEY to buy into a brand new truck, rather than to pray the older 500,000+ trucks did not breakdown.

then one day, (well several months later) Don Freymiller HIMSELF, CO-SIGNED loans for NEW TRUCKS, for all new lease operators....like...WTF..????

but as i said, when i read the various driver settlement sheets, in the end, back then, i was making more each week, and NO headaches of being a lease operator.....

as we all pretty much know, lease to own, or fleece deals just ain't with it, and no matter how many times many of us try to turn someone away from such deals...they still "go for it"....

also too, Schanno was not actively recruiting from the New England area....and now of course, like a few other fleece deal companies, Schanno is out of business.....

thanks to my state's fishing rules/regulations, i no longer have to pay for a fishing license, either fresh or saltwater, and also, i do not have to buy a "trout stamp", meaning i can take any trout home without fear the trout cops come after me....lol

    D.Tibbitt and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this.

I don't remember them doing fleece purchases.
As far as New England goes, they had a lot of freight going to Boston... so I don't know why they wouldn't have more o-o's from there.
I knew of 2 guys that lived out there.
    Oh well,water under the bridge.lol

But hey, hope you really enjoy your retirement...
I'll be a couple years behind you.

    D.Tibbitt and buddyd157 Thank this.
