I almost got stuck in the gate today. Not a pleasant feeling. Went down to do my cdl permit test today and the first thing was the eye exam and it turns out one of my contacts needs a new perscription. One eye was fine but not the other. Got an appointment with the eye doc tomorrow am. I did fine on the questions test just gotta go back and do the eye exam again. :biggrin_25524:

what i ALWAYS do is, about 1 to 2 weeks before my license needs to be renewed, i go to my eye doctor for a full exam. then he fills out the "blue card" and signs it......

i take this "blue card" to my DMV on the day i actually go for my renewal...and hand it over to the DMV clerk.....(i think my eye doctor says, the "blue card" is good for 1 month, but i cannot remember)

the DMV clerk, or ANYONE at the DMV, CANNOT refuse what a professional eye doctor says......and if they ever do, i got my eye doctor on "speed dial", as he said HE WILL argue with them, and had done so in the past.....but frankly, once that "blue card" is handed over to the clerk....?? it's, ok.......sign here, go take your picture.....have a nice day.....

i have never trusted those DMV eye machines, they are almost NEVER focused, and they NEVER wipe them with alcohol to sterilize them. yu put your face into that machine after someone else may have a skin disease or cold, or whatever, and YOU GET IT.....

in fact, my whole family and many of my friends go to the eye doctor to avoid the DMV machines. its money well spent as you get your "yearly" eye exam this way too...

you are right they cannot refuse a credential from a professional doctor
but they can still give you an eye exam, well, where i am anyway

Good info Rerun!....I actually have a full eye exam tommorow morning, as I thought it'd be best to have one done before I head to training on Monday. So do you just have to ask for the "blue card" and is there any extra cost?

You could memorize the eye chart too! You could also do like me and just go to your local shady truck driving school and get your physical taken there. As long as you are breathing you are good to go! $30.00!

    you're welcome

this is CORRECT, and if they do.....cal your doc NOW...(i mean when you are there)

absolutely NOT....the doctor freely gives it out to his patients. ask him though, how long is it good for.....i had an eye exam done in May of this year, and had a DOT physical in August....they accepted it...!!! but, this is NOT the DMV , so ask your doc about the DMV.....

yon know what...?? when i worked for a local LTL company here....we had an old driver, and i mean OLD, Dominic is his name....he was retired, and was 73 years old.......yes.....and he would go from Mass to NJ and back...!!
he could NOT pass the eye test.....he did this, he memorized the eye chart....sumana biotch passed........

but he had to get a physical every year....the following year....he failed, and finally retired.....

one hellava driver at HIS age......
