Drilling a hole at the end of a crack will stop it from spreading in the future. Otherwise it will continue to grow even after welding. Then prep it with a grinder cleaning up the area to keep the weld clean. I usually cut a V-groove to lay the first bead with a 6011 extending a 1/2-1" past the hole., Then follow with a second pass to fill any voids. Followed with a perpendicular weld across your hole to give you added strength. You want to do both sides if possible.VisionLogistics and Kansas Thank this. -

Insurance wont cover the repair cost?? I know here in NY at least with a passenger car if the roads damage your vehicle there is a way to turn the repair bill into the state and their insurance will cover the repairs. My aunt had to do that with a bent rim due to spring time pot holes... just my 2 cents worth

You can self the frame here just not the flanges or certain frames.the wayvi fix them is take a torch heat up the cracked area not to hot it works better to grind the paint off first after you let it cool down you will be able to see the entire crack I would then drill holes at the end of the crack to keep it from spreading v it out really good and weld it up grind it down and paint and no one will no its a common fixbi would not plate the area and draw the dot man to it.if you you don't think you can weld to frames look at cement trucks and trash trucks on cement trucks they weld the mixer subframe dirrectly too the framerail the entire length of the truck
