Clouse trucking in Carlisle hauls milk. (The pay is low)They hired a friend of mine right out of high school doing farm pickups. (In full disclosure, this was 18 years ago) But, if they'd hire you, you'll gain some good experience.

 

Try LCL BULK if you don't mind tanker work, they haul a lot of chocolate.

 

Harrisburg Dairies might be worth checking out.

 

Look into milk haulers in the area.. you might end up with an hour commute to get on with someone who will take you with no experience though.

It’s typically pretty good experience and home daily if you can put up with the long hours and putting a truck in places it doesn’t belong.

Wadhams recently took over Northwest Food Transportation in East Earl PA, they hire with little to no experience and train you.

Not sure on experience required at these other companies...

Clover Dairy in Reading has their own trucks.

Centerport in Newmanstown.

Mount Joy Farmers Co-Op.

Milky Haven, O Donnell and Clark Transport are all in Quarryville.

Rutters in York.

Manbeck in Womelsdorf.

You can find some decent local jobs in eastern PA but you may just have to compromise in one area or another until you get more experience. With a year or so behind you, your options will improve greatly.

This company goes to Harrisburg a lot from Ohio and North Carolina. They also do a triangle run Ohio to North Carolina to Harrisburg/ York PA. They go to Pottsville PA to lots on the Walmarts DC in PA. You might think Walmart DC suck, but they ONLY do drop and hooks at Walmart DC.

$800 a week minimum guarantee fist year more if you can drive the miles. Then $900 minimum second year and $1,000 minimum guarantee pay at 3 years. You make more if you run the miles. You get paid by the mile but you never have to worry about a slow or bad week. That's when the minimum guarantee would kick in.

Since you want lots of home time along with decent paychecks, then food service is probably what you need. Try it for awhile and then if you don't want to do it long term, move to something else.
