I'm curious about this and would like to try some new approaches. What messages have you been delivered? Did they work or not and why? To me it seems like common sense, but there seems to be a disconnect from time to time with certain drivers. I would like to try a different approach and your feedback could help me. Even if you feedback is shut up, nobody cares. That works, just trying to expand my horizons man.

Seems to me like safety messages were always intended for other drivers. And yeah, they were mostly common sense.

    Wipe butt after going poop.
    Use mirrors while backing
Do not smoke crack on company time
Wear shirt and shoes while at the receiver.
    Bathe
50lbs load limit on your dash

Inclement weather and major accident messages are beneficial especially if the qualcomm could be read while truck is in motion..I know, the next safety message should be don't use qualcomm while truck is in motion..lol

Most safety messages are stuff the driver should already know. I do appreciate weather and accident messages. I think if anything safety messages need sent to dispatch at some companies. Like the company I work for now, it's like night and day with no communication between the two depts. Dispatch will encourage loads to get there regardless how and safety will turn their head until you get caught. Then and only then you weren't suppose to do that.
My log dept will teach you how to falsify better. They'll write you a warning letter with points, you come in and replace the log, falsify and make it look better, then they tear the warning letter up. Heck of a system.
Since I been home I heard the safety man has been replaced. Maybe things have changed, but I doubt it.

when i was local, we all carried computers.....i always thought it was ironic they sent messages while you were driving reminding you not to use electronic devices while driving....they know everytime that computer dings we look at it whether were driving or not cuz its how they send us our pickups

I was at a company that solved that problem, messages could not be received while driving.

Yeah but you won't like it.:biggrin_2556:

While talking to some students at a friends small school he commented his class seemed to not be understanding the stopping distance it takes for a truck.

We solved this by taking a six second fuse tied to detcord on the back of an old wreck he had on the backing course. As we walked around I stopped to discuss the maneuver they would be performing turned to the ####iest one in the class and yelled count to six as I pulled the fuse :biggrin_25514:

Needless to say they had a far better understanding of exactly how fast their career and lives could end at that point:biggrin_255:

Good question. IIRC, our safety messages often had a snarky, accusatory, or condescending tone (wish I could recall an example). But by and large, the messages (they came in on Qualcom -- we could receive and send while driving) were reasonable and to be expected at a trucking company; I think you've got to keep hammering on safety. Aside from tone, I never had a problem with them and I thought they were a good idea.

As for that disconnect, I'd say there's nothing you can do about it. Some people are disconnected to begin with or prone to take things the wrong way. Or they're tired or having issues (hopefully temporary), and they'll go off no matter what anyone says.
