Has anybody tried this for auxillary power?

Just get small inverter that plug into truck 12v plug. They can do 150w and the trucks 4 batteries can power that easy. If you going to have heat or a/c in the truck the engine will have to idle if you don't have APU. Truck have different opitions companies get.

My truck has auto start for the engine. It will start the truck for sleeper heat or a/c. It also starts to recharge the batteries. Some truck have extra batteries for and heater and a/c. They can go about 8-10 hours then the engine will start and recharge the batteries.

My company truck has 1,500w inverter. It's not a pure sin wave. It's not perfect because it can cut off sometimes when the auto start kicks in because they got the wrong inveter. My truck has 4 regular 120v plugs.

What does your company expect you to do when it's extremely hot or cold and sleeping in your truck? It doesn't make a lot of sense.

    Go to YouTube.
Search “how to wire an auxiliary battery”
Lots of good info there about wiring and battery isolators.
Isolators are what is used for diode protection.

Unfortunately, 150W not enough for a coffee maker...and I gotta' have my coffee.

All your toys run on dc, even the tv you plug into 110 converts it to dc, no need for pure sine wave.

Computers should have pure sine wave.

look up goal zero portable battery packs, they make them large enough to run a fridge or tv for several hours, then you just recharge it using 12v socket on your truck

    I have ru
n a laptop on a cheap inverter for 15 years, never a power supply failure, the power supply converts ac to dc to run the computer,
Type of 110 input does no affect the dc out put.

it does, laptop power cords clean up the power signal so its not an issue

A pure sine wave inverter is just plain a better inverter. Otherwise getting away with chopped wave is... well... getting away with that.
You do realize. An alternator creates 110ac. It is then bridged and voltage divided to put out DC. Alternators are much smaller because of the lack of current handling. Larger conductors required in the windings of a 12 volt generator. An actual 12 volt generator would be much larger.
An example of alternators used for ac. Diodes and voltage divider bypassed. Sometimes you’ll see a small home made wind generator with an alternator on it. That’s what the guy did.
Unless he’s stupid and trying to use 12volt dc in his house. Yes... I ran into a guy who did 12volt dc in his house for lighting and whatever he could. He was convinced it saved him power. When he was wasting power in the form of heat loss from higher current for same light. I was there on a high bill complaint. I tested meters for the electric company at the time.
For a fun one. You could put a wind generator on your truck. Drive down the road generating power. I don’t think your company would be happy about that.
