When I was looking for a company to start out with, the feedback that I got about McElroy was that they're great to work for, you're home almost every weekend, McElroy Truck Lines (MTL) stands for Must Tarp Loads (they tarp EVERYTHING). The reason that I didn't consider them was the short trips, low miles and subsequent small paycheck.

You're pay won't be as high if home every weekend.
Also check Howard Transportation and Melton Truck Lines.

McElroy has a terminal at Cuba, AL. When we would go to Meridian, MS to shop the trucks were parked there on the weekend, I guess they still do. I don't really know how they get their loads in order for them to have been back like that, or if it was if you just happened to be in the area you pulled in.

The question is, how many miles per week? Could you afford to live on 1200-1500 miles per week at 45cpm? They're a good company for someone that doesn't have a lot of expenses and likes to spend time at home on the weekends. And the fact that they're advertising on CL should tell you something about that particular dedicated account.

Great people there. I drove ten months for them up until january. I probably averaged 1800-2000 miles over those ten months. Most of the loads had a minimum that they paid so even after taxes and insurance, I usually brought home around $700 a week. Of course around the holidays it got kinda slow. I only left because I got a local job. Wish I had stayed with them!

I work for McElroy, but I work their dedicated account out of Hagerstown,Md. I love it. I can answer any questions you may have. I have only been working for them a couple months, so I'm up to date with their expectations..
