Has anyone ever heard of having to take the skills test with a tanker trailer?

For Hazmat, you do have to take ELDT training from a registered provider. It's separate from the ELDT training to get the CDL and can be done online. If you get on with Schneider, they provide the course free of charge to all drivers.

I've already done the ELDT HAZMAT Theory course. My original plan was to go to a CDL school and use the WIOA grant, but the workforce center is backed like 7 months. My name is one the TPR Registry website, and I have the certificate that I got from the c9ourse that I took. So I'm good there.

The course only cost me $25 so it didn't put me too big in the hole. Not like some of these other HAZMAT courses that are $100+. I've seen them go as high as $399.

Will do glad, and I could help. The course you took for the hazmat, if it was not ELDT certified DPS will NOT accept it and will not allow you to take the exam. Our ELDT hazmat will only be 4 hours. I bet you took a test prep course to help you pass the exam and not the ELDT. A test prep course will ofc help you, but you are required to take the ELDT class. If you go to a carrier for your school, they will likely have it there incorporated into your regular ELDT training if they haul HME. I am taking it just in case I want to switch up what I do so I can take HME down the road if I need it. Have you started looking at megas for your schooling yet? There are some good resources on here to help you look and plenty of drivers to tell you where they went and how it was.

It's definitely ELDT and FMCSA certified. I looked the training provider up on the FMCSA training provider website and verified first before I enrolled. And I asked around and people said that they took the same course as well, and the DPS office accepted it as well. My name is definitely on the TPR registry.

Thank you. I went ahead and got them done on my own, one because I don't want to sit in class going over stuff that I've already learned and know, and two, I took it because originally I was going to go to a CDL school with a WIOA grant, but the workforce center grants were backed by like 7 months, and I can't afford to pay out of pocket.

MD let me add Tanker endorsement test to the other tests I had to take anyway for my CLP. I do have the "X" empty tanker restriction now though

Do you still have your CLP? I'm just playing it safe and gonna take my tanker, doubles/triples, and hazmat after I've got my license. Me and @Terlingua live in the same state, and he went through the same thing, was told the same thing, so I'll just take it after I get my license.

It definitely varies by state. I've seen people in other states report being able to add just about all the endorsements to the CLP. Texas likes to do things backwards, like taking the hazmat test at the DMV before the fingerprints and background check. Most other states is background before DMV test.
