Sounds like your trainee is finding an excuse to quit and go home.Hes not going to last with his next trainer.Hes not giving trucking a chance. That company won't bend over backwards for him either. This is trucking and companies hire ppl to drive.I don't think 6 to 8 hrs a day is an unreasonable amount of time behind the wheel.Wonder how many hrs he feels is reasonable.

    Newtrucker48 Thanks this.

I have no idea because we were talking about how dangerous it is sleeping on the side of a road and or interstate and he was asking me if he could or should use and drive his 11 hours clock every day. I told him no that he wouldn't have any time left on 70. He didn't care he wanted to drive as much as possible. And now he does this.. think he may be confused. His dad is a local driver somewhere and I guess he thought otr was just alot of trucks parked at truck stops and only move during the day and move an inch in a 14 hour period. He gets paid hourly during training. A dollar more while driving and minimum wage while on duty. Letting him drive I thought I was doing him a favor padding his wallet. Guess not.

A lot of trainees wants to hurry up and knock off their required hrs so they can go solo. They worry more about that then the safety and do it right part of the job. When he wanted to drive his full 11 everyday, did he tell you that before he drove for the first time?

no this was yesterday afternoon. Same day he felt he was driving too much. I was running truck as solo because I want to train people not just get to team status. I want to be absolute sure before I say we are teaming he knew how to drive through all terrain and how to fuel do paperwork and how to back. I made money solo. Training came because I wanted to help. Going forward I will make sure before the key turns what the student should expect coming out of school. I informed him driving isn't like in school but I don't think that sunk in until we started driving. And it was at a moderate pace not an extreme case. We took more than 3 14+ hour breaks when the way I run alone I start as soon as my hours are back. No matter what time of day it is. I adapted this for him.

also patty, that's why I'm so confused because he was getting his hours at a blistering pace. And then to say he was driving to much it's so weird and backwards. I thought he would want to get his truck as fast as possible and go solo. Driving like he has been he would have been done in 2 more weeks max. Training max in weeks 4 weeks. For me i had 8 weeks with my trainer. I wanted to drive as much as I could so I could have get in my own space and privacy. I don't know
