Has anyone ever seen evidence of the driver shortage?

The same can be said for pretty much every blue collar worker. Adjust for inflation and they make a lot less money today than 40 years ago. It's out of control inflation that causes this.

Edit to add. There are very good company jobs or there. It just isn't gonna be with the big box carriers. Look into food service, ltl, and grocery. (Not otr reefer, I'm talking about working directly for the grocery store like publix and walmart).

Maybe for Fla., but for starting wages in Denver, that's the norm

What we have here, is a failure to understand. Apparently, most of you cannot read, $15.50 is STARTING PAY, I know, you would prefer $25.00/hr to start, reminds of the 16 yr olds demanding $15.00/hr to flip burgers at McD's. So let me help you even further, decided to peruse Craigslist, I guess some you might want to rethink things. I found CDL jobs in various parts of Fla., Boston and other states all starting between $13.50 and $17.50/hr with 2 to 3 yrs exp..

Ryder Logistics, W. Palm Beach, $14.50/hr
    http://miami.craigslist.org/pbc/trp/5925334783.html

Another in Broward/Palm Beach $35K annually, $16.80 to start

    Boston
CDL A No Exp., $16.50/hr to start

Central Transport $18/hr to start plus OT
    http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/trp/5925183034.html

Your honor, the defense rests, the prosecution needs to learn how to read.

What do you consider a fair starting hourly wage for local driving, home nightly?

No by new breed i am referencing the new type of drivers and the attitude, lack of respect, lack of proper training. We are all aware of those two week fly by night training schools. Just enough training to pass the CDL tests. I am talking from being around in the industry in earlier days, and in todays industry. The massive change more so in the drivers , and with technology. If a person seemingly has to have it, this is his/her business. I have with 40 years driving, and being around the industry my entire life. Though i am not a user, or 95% of technology, you are right, this is my choice. anyway, this whole thing is a generational disagreement, and is just my overview of how the industry, and drivers have changed.

I've been turning down offers from guys trying to get me to come to work for them for years. All starting in the low 60s to mid 70s. 65k comes out to 31.25 an hour. For someone with zero experience, just out of school is say 42k so that's 20.19/hour. Adjusted up for high living expense areas of course. Anything under 40k a year is not a liveable wage.

that's junk for 3 years experience. You keep throwing starting pat around like it's a training company. DenCol pays over $23/hour
