The numbers of spots to park to trucks on the road is the real reason why truck stop x, y, z fills up between 4p & 6p.

And it doesn't seem to be getting much better.
As a solo driver, finding parking near the wrong city, at the wrong hour can be the most difficult part of the job.

I am the night driver on a team operation and if we need a spot to park in the middle of the night I sometimes have to start looking an hour and a half before my shift ends and cruise through two or three truck stops before I find an empty spot.

The idea of Somalis just off the plane driving a semi is frightening. Have any of these people even driven a car?

Actually, even for good money, good benefits, home nightly and new equipment, there is a shortage of drivers who want to work. Nothing is good enough for some of them, too make it worse, they don't have the skills or the work ethic to even remotely demand what they want.

This is what we hear in the busy season---
    12 HOURS!!!!!!! That's ridiculous, I can't work that many hours a day!!!!
60 hours in 5 days!!!!!! No way!!!!!
Start at 4 am and work until 5pm 3 days in a row!!!!! That's ridiculous!!!!!!

This is what we hear in the slow season--
I only worked 8 hrs today
I only worked 6 hrs today
I only worked 40 hrs this week

This is what we hear all the time---
Too much paperwork, it takes me 15 minutes to get my paperwork together at the end of the day

(insurance requirement) and 1 yr mountain exp. (chaining required). Equipment is all 2013 and newer Macks.

Driver shortage is a ATA proper and a lie. Now short drivers? Hmmm, maybe.
