Has anyone ever seen evidence of the driver shortage?

People used to find good 50-60k jobs in in places like northern Idaho, running log truck or dump. Even chip truck used to pay better then it does. A job like that used to feed a family up there and buy a pretty good place to live. Now days log truck jobs pay crap on a percentage, and guys will wait around all year to run just to run a dump for a few months of the year.

Everybody and their brother has a CDL in these rural area's now. The excess of drivers in these areas has driver wages just above minimum wage. While costs in Spokane are not quite as bad as other large cities, uprooting yourself and moving to the big city for a job in some areas is just not possible with some of todays rents.

    You're not kidding, man.
Come to Portland (ME) some time... Gentrification has already kicked the poor off of Munjoy Hill. If you live outside the 295 loop you're paying out the ### (Between myself and my two roomies we kick out $2100 for a 3x bedroom)... A studio apt is like $600 in the city w. NOTHING included.... It has gotten ridiculous. A good wage barely off sets the cost of living.

Quote from recruiter "Same as last week, hired 10 drivers and 11 quit!" Good companies don't have a driver shortage while the usual suspects got a Hiring shingle on every trailer and trucking rag

Yup, a one bedroom in Spokane, WA is averaging $700. However, try Seattle, where a much smaller one bedroom will cost you $2,000 on the average. You better be single and hope for a lot of overtime if you work for Saia in Seattle.

Better not like food very much either, apparently. Dumpster Dive to survive.
