Truck Drivers are retiring by the hoards with newly regulated regulations, thus we are left with a c--p load of newbies, rookies, steering wheel holders who think drinking and driving a CMV, doing drugs, filming themselves doing stupid c--p while driving. and so many other illiterate, ignorant foolish, stupid stuff. Social media has not done any favors to the image we use to have in the 70's and 80's. Let alone the new breed of drivers we must contend with on our highways today. Drivers opening up a door and 100 fast food bags fall out, the ignorant communications on the radio, blah, blah, blah. If anyone is offended, than you must be one of those drivers i am talking about. So many of you talk about, and degrade those supposed "super truckers"
Has anyone ever seen evidence of the driver shortage?

I've been looking for a cheap Cadillac in excellent condition but can't find one so does this mean there's a Cadillac shortage ? .

Look, trucking wasn't perfect "back in the day". There were accidents, truckers took drugs and drank and let's see, is it easier to be a super trucker with E logs or paper?
This attitude doesn't offend me, it humors me. Besides, as I always say. I wish the Internet forum had been invented in the 70's, then we could hear all of those truckers complaining about the "new breed".
"You guys today have that cruise control gizmo, might as well let the truck drive itself!"Wymon, Grijon, spyder7723 and 3 others Thank this. -

A former terminal manager mentioned driver shortage to me as a reason he can't find enough people to fill his trucks (all 12 of them!).
I countered that it's local work, M-F, with good pay. It's flatbed which will scare some people off, but he should still have a line of applicants out the door. The problem is that it is a dedicated acct with a company notorious for treating it's employees like crap. He's got a limited hiring radius, and it's been poisoned for him because of all the hard feelings in the area against the customer company. It's not that there aren't drivers, they're just smart enough to stay away. There are local fleets nearby that never have to advertise because they have a waiting list.
So he posts daily ads on Craigslist and bumps the hiring bonus another thousand every six months or so, not realizing those are red flags for the ones that haven't heard of him or his crappy boss company.tman78, Toomanybikes and Midnightrider909 Thank this. -

For years, Colorado has been issuing license, regular and CDL to people who can fog a mirror, open book and with an interpreter. Watched it happen a couple of times.
