I've been asked to quote a shipment of MD-530 helicopters from Mcdonnell Douglass 15 miles to the airport in Phoenix. Has anyone here ever hauled these from there? I would like to ask some advice. If shipped on a regular flatbed the height would be 107 inches tall from the tail rotor assembly making it overheight? Do trucks get stopped and someone climbs up to inspect the 2 inch infraction? I've been told you can't get an overheight permit if it would fit on a suitable lower bed trailer, SD, but the dimensions of the unit sitting on a 20 foot airline pallet, extends 4 feet over as it
is 24 feet long and could only fit 1 on a SD instead of 2 on a regular flatbed trailer. Thanks in advance for any experience you can share. The blades come off and are shipped in a 20 ft container I'm told. Seems like a lot of empty space in the container, could somebody propose a better solution? I can't believe a war effort depends on my limited knowledge and lack of experience here to guide this logistical effort. help !
