Has anyone used WIA funding for school?

I went through workeforce in port st lucie fl. It took about 5 weeks. No test or any thing .I just had to get a prehire first. All said and done it boiled down to me filling out a income and expense sheet that wia pluged into the computer and said i was qualified.

The program is called MET (Motivational Educational Training)and they pay for
schooling in FULL, also pay you $6.45hr for every hour you attend class, and a

Their only requirement was that you maintained a job for at least 14 months
after you got out of school. Funny thing about it is that they did not care if you
mowed lawns, flipped burgers, washed cars, or walked dogs for a job as long
as you had one for the 14 months.



I am wondering if they have this program that you talk about in the state of Virginia? I went to a vo-tech school many years ago when I attended high school and I got to run Heavy Equipment I drove dump trucks and backhoes when I was in that class but I never really used that tallent I got a Class B with Passenger and Airbrakes but that hasn't gotten me to far every place wants you to have a class A license I am close all I have to do is a combination test and I can have the permit then I would just have to do the road test again which I dread because it takes 2 months just to get an appointment with the DMV. And not to mention I dont have a truck to test or practice in. I would love to just go drive buses but they all seem to have a policy know one under that age of 25 which kinda sucks for me....(22 years old)

I can't go to far my old lady is gonna have a baby in June and she wants me around for that exciting day. That will be interesting considering I HATE HOSPITALS.

 

I recently applied for WIA before I found Central Refrigerated. My advisor told me that they're out of funding until June or July.

 

The funding for the WIA program usually renews by the 7th of July,annually. Do not give up on them too quickly. They are there for you, to get your training.
The funds are limited, so better apply asap

Just returned from Michigan Works, here are my choices. $15,000 a year for two years to attend a vocational or trade school. or

They will pay a employer for six months to train me. or

I can get about $ 8,000 cash and find my own job.

I was thinking about driving and I would if I can get on with the right company. But now I am thinking maybe dispatcher or something else in the transportation field. I was fortunate to fall into a special program for dislocated workers.
All opinions are wanted and welcome.

 

Why is it that when somebody gets laid off right away they want to learn how to drive a truck? Learning to drive is the easy part, learning the lifestyle well that's a lot tougher

 

Already know how to drive, I was OTR in the mid eighties and already have a CDL

 

Hiya Coonass,
I read your post about MET and the financial aid they provided. I went to their website, but from what I could gather is they require you to be involved in farming or agriculture in one form or another to be eligible to receive their help. Were you involved in those fields prior to receiving your aid? I am trying to get financing for school, but am having problems. I was going to go to C.R. England or Swift, but have heard nightmare stories. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried No worker left behind, with the unemployment office ?

 

No, I haven't. I've never had to use any worker assistance programs before, so I am not aware of the different types available.
