Check their CSA score first.. !
You don't want to lease on with them if they have a high score with any of the 5 basics.
Has anyone worked for Mason Dixon/Universal as an O/O?

I didn't particularly care for the way some things were done, but there is always something that one doesn't like about a company. Over all, I found them to be very accommodating and helpful most of the time. There was a little more paperwork involved when loading with one company when you were leased to another. I don't know if that is still true. Landstar went through something similar before they combined their various divisions. -

I haul for mason dixon but do container work in mn. Every branch of mason dixon can be different but from my work comparing to the other container haulers we have it a little bit better here.
we also have a jb hunt contract and they don't pay too bad. We do move mostly all chrobinson loads. Pay is every week on comdata and I don't think I'm leaving this company for a long time. -
I don't think that there is one company that is right for every owner operator. If you like the company to whom you are leased, then there is no reason to go somewhere else. If we are to be honest, there is really little difference between most carriers. Often when a driver or owner operator is dissatisfied it has more to do with personality conflicts with their corporate contacts.

I am currently leased to UACL. It took me about 6 months to get into the system. I do maintain an above average rate per mile, but I work hard all day long with calls and watching the boards. They don't say anything about time off. That is what I like about them. It is up to you for your own success or failure. Settlements are quick and accurate and if there are any issues they are resolved quickly.

I just seen an ad for universal on the internet for jobs in my area, I sent for more information. maybe I can weed some info outta the recruiter, not that it can really be trusted but whatever, info is info.

They always list the loads about 20% - 30% below the market rate I can tell you that much.

So I heard from just about anyone.

It is not what you know, but who you know. That is why it took me about 6 months to get into the system. ( to find the better agents in my area) now I have found some and I do well. No company is perfect, but I have made contacts here and don't want to start over elsewhere.
