Double Eagle and Apex are "powder trains", not bottom dumps. You are "local", but you will work 12 hour days, maybe more if management gets their way. Apex runs out of Adelanto, quite a distance. (Vegas, N. Ca. Az.) There are a couple Apex drivers living here in Kingman,Az. There are a few sleeper units running, so you could be out 1 or 2 nights a week. Double Eagle has Nice equipment, located behind the Pilot there in Hesperia.

I took a road test with a company that was bought out by Apex. One road test was all I needed to go elsewhere down the road. They ran gypsum rock from Vegas to Apple Valley and bulk cement back. They ran their drivers hard and most had bad driving records so they were stuck to work there. I'd see their day cab trucks pulled over on a cutoff road in the desert and the driver would be sleeping across the seats. Once I got on with hauling gasoline a few Apex drivers came over to work and they would say they'd pull weeds before they went back to Apex. Now that's only their opinion but it was more than just a couple. That's been many years ago and things may have changed but I'd still be real careful.

Navajo will pay you peanuts. They advertise in Riverside all the time. My stepdad drove for them and said they don't like to pay for anything. He said that you will be unloading all your freight for $30 or pay a lumper out of your pocket. He also said they are dropping their pay to .28/mile for experienced drivers. That is too cheap for me... He went to work for an oilfield outfit called BJ Services. They run tanker from Riverside to Long Beach and pump chemicals in the wells. He gets about $24/hr doing this. That isn't too far from where you are in San Bernadino. He will once in a while go to Palm Springs. Their yard is where the 15 and 215 meet up on the hill. Plus they hire new drivers and will train you to do the pumping. He is trying to get another brother of mine into doing it, but that brother won't get off his behing. He would rather collect unemployment and wait for construction to pick back up then do other work until it does.

Good luck in finding a good company that will make you happy out there.
