Just depends who you're working for and what your market is. We've gone from 5 trucks to 8 in the last three months, and still ### deep in alligators! We were farming a lot of loads out b4, so had plenty to do. Most of the other carriers in our area are struggling, don't see the new car guys enough to know how things are there.
Talked to a Spider driver yesterday, things are just ok, there. But they do run across your part of the world. Not sure if Spider has any co. Trucks, mainly o/o. I know you said Seeland would be good because of where you're at, but I wouldn't recommend those cheap jokers to anyone. You can make more dragging a box!

We are slow right now but we have picked up overflow from Nissan and we picked up VW and Audi to help keep the trucks rolling. BMW is promising big things for the 4th quarter so I'm holding out hope that I can finish the year strong.

my new company is taking over the area, we have a fair amount of work, I wont complain.

Really, Selland are cheap jokers, why??

Sorry for the delay, Scud Runner.
Last I talked to one of them it was .43 cpm & 7 bucks a unit.
IMHO, that = cheap jokers! -

Things picking up at all?

Well... Since the last few weeks have been dead # the auction, yeah, things picked up this week. Word from the dealers is that the local banks are able to get money again. Still going to be an ugly winter.
My 'boss' told me he talked to a friend # another carhauler; they've been losing an O/O a week for a couple months now. Just throwing in the towel and giving the truck to the bank. And this isn't some shoestring outfit.
Buckle in boys! This ride is gonna last longer than 8 seconds!

Any of you guys know of any O/O companies that specialize in Auto? Or should i just go Indy?
I have 6 years experience hauling cars, and recently my granddad passed away leaving me his 97 Pete with a three car Headrack and 2000 COTTRELL 7 car trailer.
My plan was to either get set up with a company or go independent in the spring giving me plenty of time to get the old beast road worthy. Any advice? -
Indy's a tough go right now. Central Dispatch is beyond dead and it takes a long time to get a network of your own dealers up and running. Especially now with the market so soft. The established guys are having to fight to get enough freight, not easy to break into the business with so much idle capacity. It might be better this spring (or at least I hope so...) but I don't see much market growth until sometime next fall at best.
As far as O/O companies go, a big percentage of the outfits that haul from the auctions are O/O. Don't know where you're at, but go by the auction and talk to the guys loading there. Word of mouth works very well in a small segment like carhauling, if they don't know anybody looking they can at least point you in the direction of someone to talk to.
Good Luck! And don't forget about the maintenance/repair workload on an older carhauler like that! That old steel starts to get brittle and you'll plenty of "starting to rust through" spots.
