Yep - and it really sucks, especially when you're being paid by the load. You never want to hear that clicking sound the overfill valve makes when it closes.

One note on "burping" hoses. If you do this, or if you open one of your domes when you're not hooked to vapor recovery, or if you sneak a little premium into the regular tank, if you triple hose a three product delivery and vent the tank to the outside air...all these little shortcuts, work-arounds, and time savers can bite right in the ###.
If you do any of these things and get caught you can expect your company to throw you directly under the bus. Then they'll drag your carcass out and throw you under another one.
And, after they fire you and you're looking for another job what kind of reference will you get from the company that fired you?
Short cuts are okay. Until they're not.

Use to haul fuel and gas. People would say all the time. Man your crazy there's no way I would do that. I would always reply there's nothing to worry about. Well some kids shot a bottle rocket in the open window of a gas tanker in ATL. It exploded in the cab, then the driver went in a ditch and rolled over.

Then I switched over to Propane tankers. Steel tankers are far better than aluminum tankers!!!

And now I haul an even more flammable product. But throughout the years of me doing flammable tanker jobs. The only thing that was the most dangerous was liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen.

Gas hauling isn't as dangerous as many ppl make it out to be. But I have seen some bad wrecks involving gas tankers.

However the only time gas hauling was ever dangerous for me was in Iraq. Tankers were heavily targeted in convoys. One guy took a rpg round in the cab. But it didn't blow up. He rode with it still in the truck until he got to the next FOB. Most ppl would have crapped in there pants and ran all the way back to the U.S.

Every day of your life is dangerous! Many, many freak accidents have killed people; airplanes, or parts of one, falling out of the sky, trees falling, wild animals, insect bites, stupidity, criminality, the list goes on and on, and on. It just takes being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and when your number is up it doesn't matter what you're doing or where you are.
Are you going to hide under your bed and wait for a heart attack? Your house could burn down while you sleep.

6 loads in a day? That means 6 times of shoehorning into tiny gas stations barely big enough for a pickup truck and possibly having to back out onto 3 lanes of traffic. Then there’s all the standing in the rain tending to the hoses.

I personally need just a little more bit more miles than that to scratch the itch.
