    Yes it's legal.
Occasionally you'll even see the big boys pull each other's trailers.

Not sure on what you need.
Make sure you have the registration for sure.

This is known as "power only". I have done quite a few in the last couple of years, with a variety of trailers: flats, tankers, dry vans, or oversized oilfield trailers.

Make sure during your pretrip that you have the trailer registration and current annual inspection report.

This type of work is a large part of many o/o business. As others have said, up-to-date registration and annual inspection and you are good to go.

Make sure you let your insurance company know and that you have the appropriate coverage if you do not already have it.

It's best if you have a rate that covers you for all bobtail miles. I've done power only long hauls and it was never worthwhile to bother with PO off the load boards. Ridiculous rates. Bobtail back.

You will need to buy a add on to insur. called trailer interchange that will cover you if other co. trailer is damaged while you are pulling it.

This. You gotta call your insurance company and add trailer interchange insurance. I think it will run you about extra $200 per month.

One time at Interstate I had to pull a Celadon trailer, but it was actually originally owned by a Canadian company Celadon had bought out, called Yanke. So that's what the huge letters on the side actually said. The worst part was trying to find the thing in the drop yard, thinking I wast looking for a trailer saying Celadon, and there not being any. It was so ugly and rusted out that I was sure there must be something wrong with it. It had huge spider webs in the rims and I think there was even some graffiti on it. But funny looking and battle-scarred as it was, it was still technically legal.
