Thanks for all of the information! Don't know where I got the LS 2 yr thing from. I fully expected to need to buy a seasoned authority to be able to haul for the major brokers. Shows what I know! Also explains why I never see anyone trying to sell their authority - it ain't worth anything, unless it has a customer base attached to it.
Hauling restrictions with new MC number?

So I got the answers needed about the potential broker loading restrictions. Now after communicating with my insurance agent I'm told that since so many bad actors are being put out of business or going out of business and going back into business with new authority it is now becoming very difficult and expensive to get the $1,000,000,000 liability policy that's required.
Another question that I forgot to ask when I started this thread. How long do you have to have active authority before you can start leasing trucks on under it? -
The price for $1 billion dollars in liability insurance must be insane! I only have $1 million coverage. Seriously, the cost of insurance for a new carrier is outrageous.
There is no time requirements for leasing trucks under an authority.. BUT I wouldn't expect to have people knocking down your door to lease on if you have nothing to offer. There are so many seasoned companies with financial backing that they can lease on to that provide a whole lot more than you will be able to just starting out. -
A BILLION!
###### man... it was a test... just checking to see if anyone's paying attention!
Yeah, you're right about their being a blue million choices to lease to. I just wanted to know the rules. -
I havent had much problem because i started my authority process before i even got the truck legel my mc was already active for 3 months before i took my first load and during that first week i was only turned down by 2 brokers out of like 10 that wanted me to have 6 months well 3 more months ill be good another 9 and im in the clear so far i have not run into brokers requiring more then 6 months i still dont have trouble getting freight well not for dry van at least and the few brokers i have worked with are calling on me to do other loads thats what counts is when they call back you know your building a good rep

bill had his mc for a good while before we came on board and i think lauren said they had to suffer the first year before several brookers would put frieght on til he got a year behind him. also i pretty positive that you are not eligable to be a perferred carrier list under a year old mc. i have had several tell me they do not work with companys with mcs less than a year because of all the fly by nights steel frieght, holding fright for hostage for higher haul rated and then imediate changing it next month and not being trackable of held resposible for these bussiness practice

i have had some ls agents tell me diffrent, guess they only assume
-
One of the guys I book loads for has had his MC# for less than five months. I've only had two companies turn him down, and in all honestly they weren't even worth it. A lot of companies however do ask what the O/O did before he got his own MC# (They say they need to make sure the O/O actually had some experience working for another company, etc.)

Does anyone have any updated information on this?? Is it LS corporate that sets this policy or individual agents??
