FYI: Many trips into CA usually come home empty. Make sure the rate reflects this.
I have started a long thread about Canada operations.

I am setup in most provinces but have the added issue of a 260" wheelbase which is actually legal albeit either a $ permit
or a simple request. Many people do NOT know the real rules for Canada on this board. I was given all sorts of either incorrect or unsure advice. There are a few guys on here that really know their stuff though - if you can find them.

I even had a scale house in Windsor ON tell me I was not legal to run in Ontario but I ended up calling the Ministry and spoke with the people that WRITE the rules. They in turn corrected the scale house cops.

Canada can be a great money opportunity - if you know and follow the rules.

Oh btw you will need to learn about PAPS stickers and ACE Manifest for the trip back if carrying loads (empty you wont need) and you will also need 10.75 US currency to get back in the states. Here is something else to think about is what kind of truck and trailer do you have? as in Wheelbase lengths and flat with spread, reefer, how long? Now you seeing why they will pay a little more? I have been hauling loads to Canada for over 7 yrs and still learning stuff, LOL You will also find that getting a decent paying load back out is not very easy either as the Canadians are hauling those

I am pretty sure that the requirement to take 24 hrs off once in 7 days only applies to drivers using cycle 2 and that one doesn't exist on US log books so they would never have to worry about that.

The 24 hours off is required in both cycles... within the last 14 days on Cycle 1 or on or before 70 hours on Cycle 2.

The carrier (of course, driver if O/O) determines which cycle the driver follows.

It wasn't my post, I posted the actual rule.

It doesn't matter what the U.S. log books have; they don't have 70/7 either. Theirs is 70/8. For convenience, enforcement in both countries allows the use of the home country logs.

A Canadian DOT could (I have heard they have) shut down a U.S. driver that has been running on the recap and not had 24 hours off in the last 14 days. I don't know if many of them care to.

Really educate yourself as far as provincial rules if you are running 10'6" spread axles.

My point was,so that the driver looking for information, was not mislead to the idea that he had to take 24 hrs off sometime during his 70 hr cycle, that's all nothing more nothing less. It would b pretty hard to go 14 days without a 24 hr period off somewhere without going over 70 hrs on duty although possible but not probable.

    The truck as well,

Make sure that you do not have a very long wheelbase on your tractor, the general rule is 244 inches maximum. If you have 226" you are over -lenght and will be fined and in some provinces will not be allowed to move your trailer with that tractor off the scale , this was the case in Ontario until July 1st this year. Quebec still has the law in place but you can get a permit after the $600.00 ticket.
The wheel base law in effect only comes into play if you are hauling a 53' trailer. it does not apply to 48' trailers.

We cross the border weekly and are FAST approved. We have heard from American drivers that they often have warrants that they no longer remembered come up on the Federal Database and this gets them in ####. I once remember a Vietnam Vet having a hissy fit( well deserved in my opinion)when he had to pay the $10.50 fee to get back into the USA.
