I have been looking at a job hauling into Canada and just wonder if any one can fill me in what I need and the ins and outs of running across the border?? I've heard it's a big pain the rear. The freight would be steel on a flat bed so any info would be highly appreciated!!
Thanks

make sure you have no criminal record.... make sure your paperwork is sent to the customs broker early, and get a number so you can call the broker and make sure the entry is set up. No charge for getting into canada, but if you don't have a u.s. customs transponder, you will have to pay 12.00 u.s. to get back into your country. Keep fresh fruit to apples with the stickers on it.

Got your Passport?

Thanks for all the info! I don't have my pass port yet as I've been checking it all out first to see if it 's worth it to go through all this extra stuff and I've heard that your truck has to have a accelerator regulator to hold your truck @ certain speed and that you can be held up at the port entry mostly it's the us side for hours and what type of pass port is needed if your hauling steady back and forth all week and again thanks!!

A regular passport is all you need and all you could probably get anyway, I'm assuming you are not a diplomat or a State Department employee.

Only the provinces of Ontario and Quebec require having the truck governed.

Thanks everyone this all a big help and Ontario is where I would be going and crossing at port Huron area and also what is the deal with the fruit as I've never hauled there before so I am a total newbie!!
THANKS AGAIN !!!! -
If you are going to be coming regularly, consider investing in a FAST card. Provided you meet the requirements, it's far and away the best option. 50.00, you are pre-cleared by both countries. Minimal questions, minimal searches. You are a secured traveller. As long as you have a clear record, you should be able to get it. Once approved, you will go to a border crossing for an interview, document verification and fingerprints taken. Your card will be mailed to you a week later.
No tolls in the west here, so not sure on the costs of that, but it is 10.75 if you don't have a customs transponder.
check the website for CBSA and U.S. CBP for the rules on what fruits and veggies and meats are allowed in both countries.
