i these people the come here trying to become rich as a new driver. Trucking isnt a way to get rich for 97% of truck drivers, and the 3% that make insane money have been at it a while, work their butts off, and made crap for a long time to get to that point.

    Wanna get rich...sell crack
Wanna make a decent living stop smoking crack and drive a truck...

Many students make 20k and under for their first few years. I'm not saying 40k isn't realistic, but a very hard goal to accomplish. However, if you don't have a personal life then it might be possible.

Mega carriers will tell you that students can make 50k a year to start. While true in some cases, not true for most. What they don't tell you is that if you want to make that much, you'll never be home.

You're dreaming big time if you think a rookie's gonna make 6 figures first year, even $50K. You might be able to pull off mid 20's to 30's, depending on who you go with. Right out of school, it'll probably be a bottom feeder. The flatbed stories you hear about are the guys that have a lot of experience in hauling different commodities, some specialised, most of which are very heavy (over size and the like). Most of the time they own their own truck. That's why you'll see those real pretty, chromed out flatbed Petes out there pulling lowboys with some sort of huge cargo. They're also paid a percentage of the load. Being a rookie and getting paid per mile, you'll get nowhere near that kind of income. Get a number of years in and try going specialised in some way or another. You may end up making a pretty penny in 15-20 years.
