Thanks to everyone for the help after talking to several people found a small company here Killeen Tx I am meeting with the owner Thursday to discuss leasing on 1 truck with his company in the next month or so. I will do this to get "my feet wet". If I can find a reasonable amount of success then I can grow from there. I've learned a considerable amount since my first post. Thanks again to those that tried to help and to those with snarky comments I'm sorry you have nothing better to do than go on forums and proclaim your trucking superiority to a bunch of nameless faceless people.

Those "snarky" people are trying to save you from yourself. Or more accurately from your money being parted from you. But do as thou wish just keep us updated on your progress.

Well you're assuming that I'm a complete idiot and you know nothing about me. I'd love to hear your success story.

No not at all just inexperienced in this field. The truck you're leasing on to this company are you going to be driving or put a driver in it?

Would you agree that the transportation industry isn't rocket science and that if somebody has good business sense, the ability to maintain business relationships, and willing to learn someone could learn this industry quickly and have success? I am not going to drive. He has given me some rough estimates of the kind of profit I can hope to achieve initially. But I'm not naive to believe everything someone tells me. I'll be looking at his financials before doing anything obviously.

No it's not brain surgery or rocket science but there is still much to learn. I prefer learning on someone else's dime not my own.

Let's just hope your driver will be a good one. Because if he's tearing up your equipment and blowing a tire every 3 days because he's too lazy to maintain proper air pressure you'll be out of commission in no time. Good luck to you, I mean it.

Let me ask you this because I'm pretty skeptical about what has been told to me thus far by this owner. He's been having a driver operate his truck for about 3 years he just added a second truck. He has told me to expect to earn 3-5k monthly at a minimum off 1 truck. Now I take this with a grain of salt because I realize some owners aren't truthful about potential earnings hence the high turnover of drivers in the trucking industry. Would you say that's an accurate earning potential with 1 truck?

It sounds plausible if nothing goes wrong.. but I'm not sure what you'll be paying the driver. What kind of truck and engine (to determine your fuel economy) how will you be settled? Percentage or mileage pay? Much more information is needed to solve this equation. I'm not an O/O but post all the info and these guys will help you out. They know the numbers inside out.:biggrin_255:

So, why doesn't the guy just get a few more trucks of his own? $3000 / 12 months per year equals $36k profit. Sounds too good to be true.

Well that was my initial thought at first as well. He did just add a 2nd truck and from what he has told me he had some struggles early on and has found success through a learning curve.
