I considered doing the same thing he is doing and after I realized the problems I would have with finding a driver I decided to fill that seat myself. As i stated it wont be easy but it can be done. Sounds like a smart guy, sure he will not do anything without looking at it hard beforehand.

Prior to connecting with this company I was considering leasing on a straight truck with Landstar and driving it myself while still in the Army. ( I have a lot of time on my hands) just to learn the ropes a little more and to be honest I don't really want to back up an 18 wheeler on a daily basis but have driven several vehicles comparable in size to a 24 FT straight or box. Does that sound like an intelligent move?

Part of the draw for this to me is with his company he has in his words " unlimited dry van trailer access" meaning I would just have to come up with the truck initially which was a selling point for me. Obviously I will be paying him a percentage so it's not like the trailer is free. But doesn't sound like a bad option.

Straight truck will be difficult ... you would have to have enough expedite or LTL freight to keep it busy enough to make money at it. I would think it'd be very difficult to start that way and make it.
He will also most likely be allowing you to charge fuel to his account which he deducts later, do not try to buy your own fuel. If he closes the doors, you do not want to be out that money. -
Yes he did say he had a fuel account that I would be able to use.

Always be careful of people offering you something that sounds like a good deal. While you are looking at the shinny object, they will be picking your pocket.

I have no affiliation with farm2fleet. Heck, I'm not even in the same country, but I would look very favourably at leasing on with them if I could.ARMYGUY1152 Thanks this. -
I did wat ur about to do last year and I spent 7 years driving for someone else and learned a lot, I think u should go to a mechanic shop and find out that part of the puzzle and wat kind of $$ ur gonna spend on a regular basis an plug those numbers into ur profits weekly which should and could be around 800-1200$ a week, iam doing ok and the future looks bright but its a ruff road and ur drivers u want to b like family its recipe for success good drivers good maintenance and don't forget uncle sam and pesky permits
