I start CDL training on Monday at the local college here in Iowa.
After I'm finished,I'm looking to find an OTR job. My question is,what is the best company that treats the new guy right ? What is fair pay for training period and after training ?
What should I look out for,so I don't get screwed over. Is it best to commit to a contact or should I stay away from companies that try to hold you for 2years ?
Thanks
have a couple questions

once you graduate CDL school i assume you will have your CDL in hand? if yes you will have to go to a stater comapny. mos will start you at .28 CPM
you dont need a contract if you already have you cdl -
Why OTR,,how about a local job ? Going OTR means away from home for weeks,,high cost to eat and live on the road,,working 70+ hours a week,, never being able to stop along the way to sight see or play tourist,, Just because you get a CDL does not mean going OTR,,there are many good and many times better paying driving jobs where you do not have to live in a coffin sleeper and never be home .
Try the local food delivery companies like US Foods or Sysco,,Pepsi Cola , beer companies or if you are set on driving something that bends in the middle try intermodal,,you will get a lot of good experience backing and many times you will be home most nights and week ends,, -
The main difference in training / newbie companies is the color of paint on the trucks.. find the closest one and go for it. Your experience with companies and their training is "luck of the draw".

Being in Iowa means you'll get a visit from a tmc recruiter.
