Have a few questions about getting your CDL's yourself through a school.

The only problem with doing this in Texas is that they run out of their alotted grant money really fast, as in a couple months after they start giving it out. So unless you get the timing right you're out of luck. Might be better in states with fewer people, but it goes fast in Texas.

 

In AZ the money never seems to run out! Maybe that's why are taxes are higher than what you pay in TX or don't pay in TX? I think I'll take your system over ours but it isn't too terrible here. The grants given in AZ are a little different for everyone. Some pay for everything including endorsement's and physicals. Some only pay for training etc.. you get the idea. When I worked as an instructor I used to get a kick when students would complain that they had to pay for their endorsements and that it wasn't part of their grant. I guess they think it's all free right? The worst of it is the great majority are no longer in the industry and yes we foot the bill for this....

 

Haha yeah, the $60 fee for the license was nothing compared to the $6,000 for a school that taught me nothing. The sad part is that I already had my CDL before I went to the school, but was told by multiple companies that I had to graduate a school in order to get hired. So I spent all that money for NOTHING I.e. staring at the sky for 3 weeks, because Maverick doesn't require graduating a CDL school, just a CDL. Wish I had known that before.
