You need to find a way to remain there longer. I'd question yourself first about why you're still with a mentor and if you can honestly say you're fit to be "cut loose", then you need to be making some calls to find out why you're stuck where you are. You leave now, you have zero solo history and far too minimal otr experience and any employer work history inquiries may not be all that great.

Your only possible option might be ... never mind. I see you're in AZ. I was going to suggest head to the oil/gas fields and try and get into a driver training position there as they (some companies) are somewhat "desperate for those who can drive safely, are willing to slip-seat and work nights, 70 hours week, for decent wages.

Have you requested to be sent back to the yard? There is a reason you are still on a trainers truck. It is your training, do not expect them to do everything for you. Get involved, demand answers. Jumping ship now will be dificult as you have zero experience.

Please read my response to the second posting below.

I too believe it is him, not the company, nor the trainer. I "see" a person that cannot hack the job at hand.

For a 35 day...???? training period...??? and it's been 3 MONTHS...????

somehow, even though I AM BAD at math.....this just doesn't add up.

I think a re-evaluation of the job and his future is needed. Some are cut out to be truckers, some no matter what, will NEVER BE truckers.

Let me just say this is always something I've planed on doing. I also counted today and its been 60 days I have been on the trainers truck. Just feels longer I guess and I have called the company and all they tell me is there trying to get me into upgrade. I don't think its a matter of if I'm not cut out for the job because I can back fine, I understand all the basic stuff and I also know I have a lot to learn still. Its just getting frustrating because they have been telling me for awhile that they will get me into upgrade. The traineris also getting very frustrated with the company because he feels I'm ready and wants to take his home time. Well I guess ill keep at it untill they get me in. Its all part of the job right.....

Something is definitely going on. Either you can't drive or your trainer is lying to you. There would be no reason for the company to keep you with a trainer its not beneficial to them. They just as soon you go out on your own and crash and burn or quit. Long as you keep a seat warm for a bit.

Did you go through this companies school or a private school? If you went to school somewhere else other than this particular company then you probably have some options. Its not like you haven't been driving at all since school. You should be able to switch carriers if that is what you think you need to do. I personally would try to stick it out awhile since you have already put so much time in with them. Otherwise you are going to have to just start all over which is time consuming and costly. Try to finish up and get a few loads under your belt and go from there.

    Good luck!

    pete1989 Thanks this.
