The 1 on 1 training is Old Dominion's Way of buisness. They team you up with a 1 on 1 trainer and you have to run local with him for 3 weeks while being paid by the hour. Here its like 15.75hr. Then you go OTR with another trainer for 4 weeks then you are required for team driving at least 2 year. 6days out 2 days home or 10 days out and 3 days home. However you and your team member have to agree on load trips and hometime. If they see you aren't agreeing and you seem to turn everything down, they write you up when you get to terminal for turning loads down. However team work is mandatory with Old Dominion. Its a great company so far. Seems very organized expecially with the load board on the pc verses dispatchers all the time. Work hard and within 4 rs get topped out at 64 cents a mile. They do have the freight for teams though.
Have an Interview with Old Dominion next week.

Vs. Swift it's a no brainer. I don't know a lot about them but pay and benefits at a big LTL like that will always be better than the starter OTR companies.

Well Heres the latest. Went to interview and took drug test and had my Employee Id picture taken. They said they would call me in 3-5 days to let me know how my results are.lol...If thats all thats holding me, I have the Job. Fleet manager was very professional and told me my start out after training was 53.9 cents a mile with split miles as a team driver. However I am gurrenteed 5000 miles a week at the least. 7000 at the max as a team. So sounds great so far. My CDL training 1 to 1 driver to trainer will be 12.75 an hour while in training. So far thats all I know.lol
Lonesome Thanks this. -
Keep us posted on how it's going.

Well I done all my Hazmat training yesterday and yard training starts next week. I have to complete 25 hours of yard training before Nov. 12,2012. Then my school starts with them. Yard training isn't paid but orientation and school is a paid thing. I will be making like $13.00hr until my school and OTR training is completed which is 240 hrs min. Old Dominion seems to take their time with people too. There was a woman who had backing trouble yesterday and they assigned a driver with her and she done terminal pulling all day practicing backing and turning. So they seem to be a great training company. NOTE: If you are offered a position in with OD as anything and you either cancel or quit after working with them......THEY HAVE A NO REHIRE POLICY......SO YOU HAVE MADE A MISTAKE.....I owe them 12 month agreement beings they are training me. It is 100% no touch freight unless you are a city driver. OTR is team drop and hook terminal to terminal....Hope this help someone out. I looked into alot of schools and found this to be the number 1 choice by a long shot. They are very professional and strick too. Strick as safety and speed. They have thier own ways of doing buisness. Its the OD way. Heres another thing. Some trucks have a monitoring systems. They are for speed and driver monitoring while you drive. I'm excited to be an OD. I got my employee number yesterday.

one last thing....Start out pay for me after training is 53.9cents a mile team split the miles.

1 on 1 training is 3 weeks long
OTR with trainer is 4 weeks
Team driving is 2 years? <--- This is my question. You are required to drive teams for 2 years before you get your own rig?
Thanks -
You do 1 on 1 yard training =25hrs this is not paid....You do 5 days 10 hours a piece in class then test for permit this week was paid. Then 5 days with a trainer doing dock trailors. Then 5 days doing city driving with a mentor. After all that you do 3 weeks total with a OTR trainer in Line Haul. After that you do team driving with someone whom is at least a 4 yr otr driver at 53.9 cents a mile. This could be your permanent partner. Some have dedicated routes only, some don't. Unless you have senority of 5yrs, your chances of being solo or slim to none. This is mostly a team driving company. If you go through this CDL program, you will owe them 12 months of employment with no payroll deductions or 3500.00 total for thier training.
Hope this helps you out better. -
Welcome to the OD family. Which terminal do you run out of?
