If you currently hold a class A, you should just have to take the air brake portion of the written test, but you're going to have to take another road test with a air brake truck.
Anytime you get any sort of CDL, you really should go ahead and get a class A without restrictions, if at all possible.
I don't think I've ever met a class B holder that didn't wish they had As.
Have CDL but now need air break endorsement.

True. At the time it was get the license in what we provide or go get a job somewhere else LOL. I was able to spend about 6 hours on trying to find someone to at least give me a chance and a Truck but the only guy I knew was out of town. Well one thing for sure I'll figure something out I always do

This is where the DMV confuses me. I drove a 26 ft box under 26k with air brakes. DMV said I didn’t need a cdl or endorsement. When I got my class a, a couple years later, that was just one of the test they handed me to take, you had to pass air brake to get class a. I did had to ask for tanker to get it added.

Correct. Under the CDL limit air brakes don't matter. Over the limit you have to pass the tests to avoid an air brake restriction.
