my mistake, i guess the next time im being an ### hat to someone, i'll refer to your post for quick instructions, lol........
This thread kind of seems like the discussions the legislature has regarding the "plight of the common man" ... as though they have any clue as to what it means. These "top union jobs" (as though most people have a chance in he.. of ever getting one) as though a "scab" will be thinking about that -more than putting food on the table. How many of those scabs have tried to get into one of those outfits, only to be turned away since the "insiders" usually will get family in when those positions when they rarely come up? How is talking about how great the money is at some union job - going to change anyone's mind who doesn't have it so good? Talking about how "great" a living you make doing this or that is really irrelevant - since a "great living" means different things to different people. And why should truck owners - ie; "business owners" worry at all about union activism? Single truck owners work for themselves, pay themselves, and have only themselves (and family) to keep happy.
Actually, health insurance companies are regulated on what they can charge. Here in Iowa, when BC BS announced a 12% rate increase, the governor, Big Bad Chet, said, "Wait just a minute here folks, I want our insurance commission to take a close look at this" A few weeks later, the Insurance Commission said the rate increase was justified. Also, just this past week, the Principal Financial Group annouced they were getting out of the Health Insurance business over the next few years, and they would be eliminating 1,500 jobs as a result. They want to use that capital to make money, rather than not make money on health insurance. Principal is the 2nd or 3rd largest health insurer in the state of Iowa. They are also one of the smartest insurance companies in Iowa...just look at the property they have built in Des Moines. They didn't ask for any handout from the government, because they dont' need it...they take in more money than they spend....my,,,,,what a novel idea!!! Health insurance does not have big margins, but has big risks. ObamaCare is going to slap a $8 billion tax on health insurance companies annually over the next few years....and then up it to $14 bilion after that. Principal knows what they are doing, and they know they don't want to be in the health insurance business. I congragulate them on beating it out of ObamaCare before it beats them!!! John Deere used to be in the health insurance business also, and they sold it to United Health Care a year or two ago....all the smart companies seem to bailing out of the business because there is not enough reward to stay in it. The only ones that can survive are the Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies, because that is their sole business, and they have no choice but to stay in it, or else go out of business.
####, you must be right. Illinoiis will follow what the Iowa law is. Why didn't I think of that? I had the insurance from 2003 and this is the last quarter to be paid. I would gladly take a 12% increase. The lowest was 29% one year. This last increase was 38%. They are not really regulated for the most part. The fact that they will be having to spend 80% on the actual cost of the insured hopefully will lead to reduced premiums from the amounts that have been spent on huge corporate bonuses. File a claim, the insurance fights it until you tire of filing. Then they won and it is passed to the bonus fund. I had to fight through the dept of insurance and after they investigated, the insurance company QUICKLY paid. The funny part is that their denial form states if you disagree, you should contact the dept of insurance. I have read the financials of many companies and as an accountant I understand the various sets of books they keep. Most people think they only have one. You can keep believing what you want. I will gladly look forward to the insurance companies being regulated. However, the thing they passed will do nothing except pad corporate profits. I would applaud and happily choose a government alternative to the crooks in the insurance industry.
I only speak of that which I know. I did some bidding for the health plan for our 2,800 member group the past 15 years, and never did any insurance company come in with a bid where they pocketed more than 11 or 12% of the premium. So for companies to pocket 20% under ObamaCare is a ripoff of the premiums being paid....them is the facts...like em or not. I only believe what I know to be fact.
I work for N O N E O F Y O U R B U S I N E S S. Get it now? I didn't say I was running OTR right now, you assumed. My benefits are free. And don't whine to me about insults after calling me a scab with full implications of what it means.
It is wise that you do not want to compare political leadership of Illinois, or I should say past leadership, that includes Gov. Blag'ovich, Obama, and the rest, to any others, as they seem to be the best there is....none better.... I would never presume that Iowa has or will do anything better than Illinois. However, I will say I am quite happy with our tax rate structure, our highways, and our state governments fiscal status...and our healthcare....every child in Iowa is covered by our state health insurance...courtesy of the taxpayers of Iowa. By the way, most insurance plans are self funded these days...so guess who makes the premiums go up??? You do. It is you, the consumer....the more you consume the higher the claims, and the more your rates go up. So next time you have a heart attack, stroke, blood clot, head truama, broken arm or leg, or any other medical problem, just buck it up and skip the hospital visit or doctor visit and pretty soon your health ins premiums will start going down.... You got a back ache, a blister, a fever, a cold, the flu....don't go to the doctor....quit consuming so much #### health care, ya big wuss. This is just like going to the grocery store, the more you put in your cart, the more you pay!!!! It is very simple....you use it, you pay for it!!! There is no such thing as a free lunch, or free health care....and there is no tooth fairy either....no Easter bunny...and no Santa Claus....
You assume way too much. My premiums are based on NO CLAIMS. I took advantage last year of the policy wellness benefit. They sent reminders for me to take it. Never had. I am a paramedic and can easily keep track of my health. Last time I went to a doctor was in 2006 for a broken arm of which the insurance deductible did not even get met. I got professional discounts from the hospital and doctor. Our governor problems are not the result of the democrat fool. We had the Republican crook locked up already. Some of the others Republican, have questionable ties to things as well. They just get elected and fail to remember why and how.
I sold insurance in the 90's and I read their financials. I also know a couple of people at an insurance company and what they took in and salaries. You can continue to think what you want, I will continue with what I want to think as well. It seems you are only interested in your facts so I hope you are happy.
