A union is exactly what it's called and represents a certain trade for a better wage and lifestyle. You see no recruitment efforts to build their strength. They are content with where they are at.

The majority of autoworkers, pipe fitters, boilermakers, electricians, plumbers etc belong to unions. Teamsters are a minority when compared to the trade they represent.

I am part of a union, Bakers union at the moment, and its the biggest crock I have ever had the misfortune of being part of. For starters, I got no say "Join the union, or lose your job" no joke, no eaggeration. What do I get out of it? 25 dollars a week out of my already pathetic (sub 175) check each week, and the 'privlage' of calling on them to 'represent me' if I ever get 'disciplined' for not doing my job...

Forgive me but if I am not doing my job for no legit reason, I dont deserve it, give me my 25 bucks a week back and the union can stick it.

I'm glad you are working for a fair employer. Be grateful. Seriously. Not many people do, and for those that don't... hope you have a union.

Thats just it, I dont think it IS a fair employer, I should have a CHOICE if I want to join a union or not, I was told if I did not, I would lose my job because of the union rules. They take 25 bucks out of my 175 a week paycheck, and I get nothing from them in return (I have seen them do nothing for fellow employees in the past)

I am glad to have a job right now.
    I hate having a union.

I drive line haul for an LTL company, and don't come within 200 miles of any part of VA in any of my travels. And if you are so serious about your service, I wouldn't bring it up as a talking point on a truck driving board, because every 2nd ####### with a cb radio will tell you over it, about his "service".

Good luck in learning about truck driving, go for the big bucks and get an LTL job, it is where the money is at.

They can't do anything for non union drivers, they don't have the extra money to spend on drivers that just turn around and talk #### about them on the cb radio. The kind of shops represented by the IBT have so little in common with OTR trucking that there is no way for them to represent otr drivers while negotiating contracts with local hourly employers. Why do you think that they don't care about the hours of service? most of their members receive hourly compensation with ot after 8/40, and it would be a conflict of interest for them to go to bat so OTR drivers can work longer hours for less pay.

If you want to see what the Teamsters will do for you, go ahead and try and make a call to your local and see if they will organize your company. They will try and help you, but they already have a pretty good idea of how you and your fellow employee's feel about unions, and i really doubt that they make any serious efforts to go forward with it. OTR truck driving is a lost cause, and they and everyone else know it.

You can double your money in any other area of trucking, and go home every night, too. don't believe it? Look at Redi-Mix drivers, they average about 37-45,000, a year, depending on where you are at.. OTR makes less than that, with the average being around 37,000. why are they the same, when cement truck drivers drive a smaller vehicle and work shorter hours, probably about half as many as OTR, and go home every day? because with cement trucks, there is probably at least 1 organized company in every major city across the country, and usually more. How many OTR trucking companies are there? VERY few, only 2 that i know of, and they are small.

Want a raise for OTR trucking? organize some companies. And stop ######## when the Teamsters don't represent you, because you don't work in an industry that they represent.

no one forced you into a union job, stop complaining about something you accepted. Or, if you hate it that much, quit your union job, and find a nonunion job that you will be happier with. you ALWAYS have a CHOICE. If you have not seen them do anything for employee's in the past, perhaps you should talk with your steward about what they have done lately, instead of insinuating that they have done nothing, when you don't know.

Actually, I wasn't told about the union until AFTER i had the job. Its one of the reasons I am going for the trucking I have been pondering. And while I hate having a union job, I am thankful to HAVE a job (as I have said repeatedly) My choices were this job or homelessness, sorry, but anyone with half a brain knows the awnser there, its not a choice. My steward barely speaks english, and I do know, I have watched it happen four times, in three months live and in person. You clearly dont know anything about my union, or what it does or does not do. I did not say all unions suck, I said mine does. I am not for, or against unions, but so far my one experiance with them in person is not the greatest. And talking to its supporters (Like you) is also, not a good experiance.

I think im done with this, I am not a fan of politics in the first place, have a good one. ^.^ Stay safe.

When those union and non union stop buying products then you lazy #$$ drivers will be in a unemployment line because of nothing to haul.

You union bashers may want to rethink about the $h!? you post about workers losing their jobs because it affects your #$$ too!!!!!:biggrin_25524:
