If I do my tankers test and I pass the test, do I need to renew my CDL license immediately at the DMV?

OR can I come back to do doubles test and then renew my CDL with both endorsements?

It's just a waste of money to pay the renewal fee twice, my DMV will only allow one test at a time.

    Any advice?

Why renew it? set to expire? Endorsements once passed, are added to existing license.

You have to pay a renewal fee for the license since you’re adding the new endorsement to the existing CDL. You don’t just pay the $7 exam fee, that’s how it works in Florida. Might work different in your state

Old Dominion, XPO Logistics, ABF Freight, etc ...will all expect/need ALL the relevant CDL endorsements.

Those are the better paying carriers that will also have you home daily.

Thus -- consider the endorsement fees & expenses to be an investment -- & NOT an expense.

Take both tests ( tanker / doubles ) and then add them on ( add- ons don't cost that much ) and your good to go .
FYI - till there on your license , dont haul the tanker or double.

If its only a day or two apart I most likely wouldn't stand in line to get the upgraded license.
If it is going to be a few weeks and might lead into more time, then I would get the new license with the new endorsement.
My recollection is you pay for the new ID card when you applied for the endorsement. So its just the time wasted sitting in line waiting.

Take all the tests at the same time? Get hazmat if you can. I don't know what it takes now they changed the process.

Take all the endorsement tests at the same time unless you like sitting at a govt office as a hobby. All of the endorsement tests are pretty short & easy. Your question is a bit like asking about getting your left eye examined for glasses and coming back later to have right eye examined.

All 10 versions of all endorsement tests are free online a TruckerCountry.com. practice until you routinely get 90% score.

    Your too easy!
Practice until you get 100% every time, we have no room for second place around here! ;)
