Its a hypothetical question but a prior trucking company I was with stated that technically if we are at home on our own time that if we did anything that could he perceived as work (with or without pay) like plumbing, mowing the lawn, taking out the trash, etc it had to be logged as on-duty not driving. Seems a bit farfetched (and as far as I know, no DOT has gone out of his way to cite a driver for mowing his own lawn while off duty LOL). Is this true?
Have to show on-duty not driving while mowing the lawn?

That will be the next trend in trucking. Mobile Elogs so you can log yourself on duty while you plunge out the toilet at home.
I seriously doubt logging on duty while at home cutting the grass is required in any stretch of the rules.Bean Jr., Lumper Humper, tscottme and 4 others Thank this. -
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
Second thought is the trucking company is such a tightwad that they cannot pay a landscaper to come in and buzzcut the place in 20 minutes once in a while.
When you are out of that truck in a company and preferably off their property, you are absolutely off duty. Now if you have sat in Orientation your first week, that's onduty.MartinFromBC Thanks this. -
Yes because you don't want to fail a random inspection. They will put you and that mower out of service

The non-hypothetical answer is that your former employers are idiots.
tinytim, Bean Jr., Aamcotrans and 12 others Thank this. -
The answer is no. On duty is if you are waiting to be loaded and getting paid, working in the warehouse, unloading your trailer, or working at a different job in which you get paid for and pay taxes.
Anything you do outside of work is off duty.Bean Jr., Tb0n3, Studebaker Hawk and 4 others Thank this.
