I can say this on behalf of RI, Most of the bridges I have looked at have a height marker on them regardless of the height.. Here in MA once it gets to a certain height they do not mark them..

So yes, I have run into one in particular in Lowell and I wasn't sure on the height on the truck.. I took it slow and everything went well.. It's definitely a good idea to plan ahead if you can..

I noticed the original poster is from Middleboro, Watch out on Neponset Street in Canton.. That's a 10'6''.. That one caused a problem for me years ago.. I was able to turn around on that busy street.

Being your a Masshole as I am let me warn you now before it happens to you. STAY AWAY from Attleborough MA. if you dont exactly know where your going.

I had to go to a demo job out there it was small house in residential area and of course i never been out there, company gave me some sorry directions as usual I follow them to a "T" well first thing I see 12'2 bridge, ok whatever banged a left soon met a 11'6 bridge, wtf ok banged a right then 13'2 bridge by this time im sweating getting ugly. I then called my dispatcher told them i wanted the number to the contractor....guess what they didnt have it...it was through a broker....so i tell them screw it im out of here let someone else find it hang up the phone

Next thing I see is a otr van trailer drive by me..hmmm let me follow him to the truck route that way I can get my bearings so i an get out of this place...sure enough he was lost as well i found out...

Great just great what do i do now...well that very instant i look out to my right and in the distance i see my excavator tearing down whats left of the house.....woohoo some curb jumping, a couple tight turns and some very peaved off 4 wheelers i make it to my demo job.

Even got directions and a escort out of there by the contractor also got an apology from the owner of my company which was nice....moral to the story is if u happen to come up on a low bridge dont panic u can get mad all u want but dont panic just keep your cool and think about every move before you do it... I may have lost 3 hrs i will never get back but id much rather lose that then to peel the top half off a $100,000 live floor trailer or even worse make a convertible out of my KW

I was "told" that the road in was ok for a lumber yard I was going to out in PA.

Bohic town in PA some years ago. It was 5 miles off the main highway.

Had an old wooden covered bridge on it for horse and buggies....

I'd like to know what cabbage leave that guy crawled out from under to think that road was appropriate for a semi to come in on....

Here's a tip, if you can put your CB antennas at 13'6", it gives you a reference point. If the antenna hits, STOP!!!!

planning ahead is fine and dandy if you have time to do it live floors and dump trailer's we really never get to plan ahead usually, you call dispatch and they tell you where you gotta be 2 hrs ago. and for us it worse cuz were we usually get loaded where trucks were never designed to go.

i cant count how many times i've blocked up a main rd in downton boston to back down a side street with no truck signs plastered all over the place to get loaded at a demo job.... i swear i get off on rubbing people the wrong way lol

    at what speed?

Maybe if you are crawling along you can.

Seen a couple trucks pulled back to the shop with the top taken off like a sardine can.

many times in the bronx. Now that I am more familar with the areas, I know how to get around them. My first day out was a stop under the train tracks with a 11-2 clearance. I tried every way to get around it till finally I saw where it was and was still under a low clearance. I stopped the truck, called dispatch and the shop steward they told me ok bring it back and are you able to turn around. I said I would look for a cop to block taffic so they said ok call back if you need help. Flagged down a cop, told him I wont make the clearance so he went up stopped all the traffic and I backed and turned around.

Now when I go to unfamilar areas, mostly CT like stamford, greenwich and norwalk I ask one of my co-workers where its at and what bridges there are. At my job if you hit one you are fired on the spot... Rough but I cant blame them. We had one area where they repaved and the guy got stuck. The sign had a high clearance which they never changed so he got stuck under it. He kept his job becuase of that.
