Put on your big boy boots and put down your online application habit. Get your medical card and cdl in hand. Show up in carhartts and steel toes at the construction and dump companies, brick and block and lumber yards. Youll get a starter job in a day. I always have. -
I'm in Tooele and I'm in somewhat the same predicament but I have plenty of experience just none recent. I've been hemming and hawing about getting back in a truck because of the low pay some of these OTR outfits want to pay is less than a 9-5 local desk job. Before you commit yourself to OTR take a look at local trucking jobs. Dirt hauling they say is paying around $250 - $300 a day and if you go to North Salt Lake there is a lot of work up there. The commute would be to long for me but from SL it's not to far.
As far as a manual is concerned stop looking and start listening. I truly couldn't tell you what RPM goes with what gear. I learned to drive in the SF area and I would of hit something if I was watching the RPM. The sound and feel of the engine will let you know what to do. Good luck. -
