Hello to all drivers, staff, men and women thats on this forum. Iam a driver at Werner and not loving the experiences Im having with this company. I been with this company for 2 years, and now is the time I give up. Im getting low miles and sitting alot and way more. At the beginning Werner was ok for me, and sometimes I do understand at slow times its harder to get a bigger pay check, but now im almost not making any money at Werner. As I was reviewing online searching for companies, I found this trucking forum and took a look at it. After taking a good look at it, i signed up and started searching for a better company. Theres only 4 companies im interested in, Prime, Walmart, Crete, and Stevens. For Prime I wanted to become a lease operator and train to make more money. By reading whats on this forum about Prime, I would say its excellent. Drivers get miles, less sitting around, great safety record, nice equipment, and great leasing to for some drivers. Second I chose was Walmart due to having safe drivers and safety record to. Miles to drive and great equipment to drive. Third as far as for Crete, I dont know much about them, but their pay scale is really high and drivers there seem to average at least 2500 miles per week. And last I chose Stevens to due to the miles I hear drivers run. The equipment Stevens use and the way they treat their drivers. But in all mostly I want to get into Prime, I dont know if things would work out for me good. I never drove reefer so I wanted to get experience on the reefer division. And then train and become a lease operator to make more money. So out of the 4 im having a hard time deciding and wanted to know more about Prime. If anybody could help I would really appreciate it

if your worried about being home and dont have much buisness sense dont lease
if you have 2 years experience you can go anywhere almost except walmart they require 5 years experience i think
many small companies will hire you now with 2 years experience they pay better and have better benes

Yes I hear smaller companies are good to, but since Iam interested in leasing and wanted to train to I think a big company would help me out more better. And how are things at TransAm??

I don't have a lot of experience yet, but if I had yours, Walmart would by far be my first choice. I have done a lot of research on companies out there as part of future planning and it really seems Walmart has very low turnover, mostly due to their great pay & benefits, all above industry average. It would be a no brainer for me. Also, I would just be a company driver. Do your job, let them pay you, give you benefits and deal with the headaches of ownership. I was self-employed for 14 years. It's probably not worth the little extra money you MIGHT make or the tons of big headaches you WILL have to deal with. Just my opinion. I have also heard mostly good things about the other companies you mentioned. Seems you have put yourself in a good position for some good opportunities. Good luck, you earned it!

like most big companies they have there "moments"
I lease some great weeks some terrible but I will stay here a while
nice new equipment with apu's,2500 watt inverters and fridge
my family is grown wife comes sometimes our needs are different then some others
but I was self employed for over 30 years and away from home sometimes months at a time so this is no big deal for me
I cant see myself in an older truck waiting to break down with a cooler strapped in the passenger seat for company
training presents it's own challeges i would just get arrested first kid with his pants down to his knees
and is boxers showing called me gramps

Thanks. Walmart is a great company to drive for. They just ask for experience to be with them. Company driving is good, there are less things to worry about and stress. For hometime and other bills you have. With family leasing is very hard and I have a 8 months old son right now and leasing wouldent be good at the moment. I was interested in local company before but I just thought that staying otr would be better because If I would go local right now and stay there for the next 3-5 years I would have to go retraining again with a company. But since I wanted to make more money I wanted to try leasing to.

I plan on joining with Prime. I want to do team driving because solo drivers at prime get lightweight trucks and feel that it wouldent be comfortable being in a small truck for 3-4 weeks at a time. I would do lease if I had experience but I see lease is a hard thing to handle if you dont know how the business works. As for you having 3 years otr I think you know enough to lease a truck. For Stevens I only know a little bit about that company but was interested with them to for their equipment. They seem ok to me but its all up to you to know what company you want to go for.

As for lightweights I dont know nothing about them because Ive never been in one. If its not really that small and have some space around then it wouldent be that much of a problem. I think I do know enough to lease, but leasing is not everybody. Some do good some do bad. Me at first I was driving for Swift, and being in a truck with no apu, low miles and the pay was not that high after I had left and tried Werner. Werner was working out for me at first but at the end of my 2 years experience with them it got worst. Stevens is a good company, I read about them on the forum. But they are a training company and only think it would be good if someone was doing leasing with Stevens and train to. I will know soon
