Yes, I do understand the dynamics of a flatbed. I pulled one for a while. The places that I delivered to and picked up had very little (some but not much) backing. One really can not pull FB in the PNW and NOT deliver to a lumber yard. This all still goes back to practicing, (No practice, No good,) Funny thing is now I pull doubles and triples (freight boxes) Linehaul and do more backing up now than I did with a flatbed. I guess my luck prevails when I'm waiting for the flatbedder trying to back into a large straight line backing spot in a truckstop and his over abundance of practicing is just taking forever. Have you seen folks trying to back up a set? That is what SOME (not all) flatbedders look like. Again, The lack of practice is what the problem is, NOT the trailer.
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!! This profession isn't known for it's go getter attitude and work ethic and is why many lazy folks flock to this job. They try to squeek by with no or as little effort as possible. Now I am in no way shape or form saying that ALL truck drivers are lazy but, Stop and take a look (from an objective point of view) at some of our fine examples that are lumbering in and out of the truckstop. Not exactly our best examples for the public to see. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!!
Just because you practice backing up does not mean that others do.

I fully understand what you are saying, and you are right.
Way to many think it is a cake walk, until they actually have to do it.
They really don't teach that anymore.
When I started 14 years ago, that was the first thing my coach said.
Practice, practice, practice, especially on backing up, because that's where more drivers will get in trouble.
It's easy, when you're moving forward in a straight line, but when you have to go in reverse, it's not as easy as some think.
Especially when you are loaded and trying to get into a tight hole.flyby1971 Thanks this. -
