they taught us a few tricks at my school, they might sound stupid but they actually worked

first, split it into sections.....do the engine compartment and driver side of the tractor (mirrors and fuel tank) first

then work to the rear of the tractor

    Air/electrical lines
    Batterys/ battery box
    Catwalk
    Driveshaft
    Exhaust
    Frame
    Utility lights

and for the coupling system remember this sentence, My Sister Really Likes Ketchup And Pickles in Glass Jars

    Mounting bolts
    Skid plate
    Release arm
    Locking pins
    Kingpin
    Apron
    Platform
    Gap
    Jaws

when they first taught us that i thought it was dumb as hell.......then i used it and it worked, used it all the way up until my state test

so if u are fumbling around trying to remember the parts to the coupling system u can just go through that sentence

    good luck

Would something like a kneeboard or wristboard checklist be allowed - like is used in military preflight or PMCS?

In Ohio, no. In Michigan from what I've been told you have a list of all the parts, you point to them and explain. That would make it easier than having nothing.

the only way i passed was by touching each and every part by hand or with a stick starting from the bottom up, but use the right words dont say leaks if its a solid metal piece.
also my school would fail you at a drop of a dime $$$??? i took the test at DMV and passed everything on the first try. the examiner was cool and understood that i was nervous. just treat him like a cop - yes sir no sir, be on time, dress and look like a pro. relax and study every chance you get, ask for help. but dont just stand around.
best of luck - this is only the beggining :yes2557:
